So when you get notification that someone has purchased something from your registry, should you thank them immediately, via text or in person..(and still do a thank you card), or just wait until you send out all your thank you’s.

No, definitely don't thank them for a gift you haven't yet received… Send a "Thank You" card after your shower/wedding (whichever event the gift is for)

Send it after you receive the gift. Whether it’s sent to your home or given to you at a shower or the wedding.

No, not until you receive the gift.

In all the weddings I've been to I had no idea that the couple received a notification if you bought something off their registry. It would have been really weird if they thanked me for a gift I didn't even give them yet.

Some of my family/friends have even gone as far to buy the gift anonymously so it will be a surprise who it's from.

Somewhere in the middle, to be clear— don’t send a thank you until you’ve actually received the gift! (this is important, it lets them know you received it...if you haven’t received it , it could be : part of a larger gift; being held on to til the shower; lost in the mail — all of which would require a different course of action) ...but! DO send a thank you *when* you receive it physically, even if it is well before other events.

I would wait to send until you actually receive it. I like to be surprised with gifts so I made sure to turn off the email and text notifications when something was purchased.
