My fiancé’s parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner, which will just be laid back with the food being BBQ. They’ve kinda hinted to not wanting to pay for a lot of people. But now that I’m making the guest list for the rehearsal, it’s getting pretty long. I need to know who is usually at the rehearsal dinner. We both have a lot of family coming from out of town. Plus once you count the wedding party & their significant others...it gets to be a lot. I want to respect my in laws wishes of not having a lot of people, but also want to be considerate to out of town guests who could be invited (grandparents, aunts/uncles)

Yet another thing where the US has its own definition:
bridal party: people at a wedding who arrive with the bride
What you are describing is known elsewhere as the wedding party.

BTW if you look up the definition of bridal party this is what you get, "The bridal party is anyone directly involved with the wedding. It is not just the bride & her bridesmaids. The term “bridal” is used because traditionally, the groom was called the bridegroom. Therefore the party of people surrounding the bride & bridegroom is the bridal party."

And the next line in that article is:

Over the years, the term Wedding Party has been used more frequently and I think that’s where brides get confused.

so let's give the whole story.

All I said was, it's another case where there are different definitions.

Okay here’s another question...do you invite your wedding coordinator and their family and the minister and their family? Since they will be involved in the rehearsal too..

I would include wedding party and your family that is coming in from out of town, give them that list and tell them to add what if their family they would like to come. Not to be mean but then they are adding the last guest and adding on which is what they don't wanna do but they will feel the pressure you where feeling. This is what my best friend did and they didn't say a word about it after that.
