Rehearsal dinner location

Meghan, on June 19, 2020 at 2:17 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 6
My wedding is in Clayton, NC. I will do a quick walk through at the venue the Friday before and a casual brewery dinner afterwards. What is an appropriate driving distance to the rehearsal dinner? Is a 30 minute drive too much to ask?

My family is local but his is not. Some of the wedding party will be in hotels but they can either stay near the venue or the airport 30 mins away if they chose to fly.

I think half an hour driving distance is fine for that!

My only question would be when is the rehearsal dinner, and will you be facing rush-hour traffic heading to the rehearsal dinner? Prior to moving away a year ago, I lived in Raleigh most of my life and I know driving out to Clayton during rush hour was a nightmare. Not sure if it’s that bad heading the other direction, but if your rehearsal dinner is 30 minutes away I’m guessing it’s towards Raleigh rather than towards Johnson County.

For perspective, we had our wedding ceremony at our church near WakeMed on a Friday night at 6 o’clock. The ceremony ended at seven, so we thought rush-hour wouldn’t be too much of a problem for our reception venue 15 minutes away right off the Gorman Street exit. This was during that bad construction time through that area, and it definitely postponed a lot of people getting to our reception because traffic was still bad at 7.

I think 30 minutes is fine, but Monica has a great point! Make sure that you account for traffic and it's not just a "best case scenario" of 30 min! Smiley winking

I don’t think 30 minutes is a terrible drive, but I would think about they’re total driving time. If they have to drive 30 minutes to the venue then 39 minutes to dinner and then 30 minutes back to where they’re staying, it all adds up. Finding something more convenient to the main route back would be great (though it could be harder depending on where everyone is coming from).

I think 30 mins is fine but a brewery consist of drinking hopefully they are driving as well.
