Rehearsal dinner - Max people for 60" table?

Laura, on March 30, 2022 at 11:38 AM Posted in Parties and Events 1 4

Hi - we're hosting a barbecue style rehearsal dinner. It's going to be a summery, more casual affair with only 60 people. The venue already has tables and chairs but we have to do our own linens, decor, etc. Would 9 or 10 people be too many per table? It would save us a couple of centerpieces but I still want people to be comfortable. I was also thinking (because of the nature of the venue) people might be walking around and socializing more than sitting. For the actual wedding we will have the normal 7-8 per table.

Let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

I think 9 is okay if everyone at the table knows each other and is close, but 10 is too many in my opinion. Even if it's fairly casual, most people will still probably eat around the same time and will want space while doing so.

While most charts and websites say you can fit 9-10, it’s crowded so I would not seat more than 7 at most. Make a sample table with full settings to see how many comfortably fit with necessary space between.

Barbecue style to me implies eating with your hands …which means, elbows out! It’s definitely important to consider what/how people are eating when figuring out how close you can seat them.

7-9 for a 60” round, with 8 being ideal. You can find comparison charts on Pinterest that illustrate how crowded or sparse each table appears when you have, for instance, 6 or 10 place settings. It was a very helpful visualization for me. Sorry I don’t have the link, but you should be able to search it.
