Rehearsal Dinner Slideshow

Mrs.Ekstrom, on June 27, 2014 at 1:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I am planning on making a slideshow for our rehearsal dinner and I was wondering how long it should be? Also wondering what I should include in it. I am not sure yet if I'm going to just have it playing in the background all night or have it so we all watch it together. Thanks for any input.

My dad is making a slideshow for my wedding. It's a surprise, but my sister saw it and spilled some of the details to me. lol

It has lots of pictures of both my FH and I growing up. I also sent my dad all the pictures I have of FH and I together. So very much a life story of the two of us in fun pictures.

I think it's around... 5 minutes? My sister exaggerates and says there was like 5 minutes of just me as a baby, which I think is a bit much. lol. 5-10 minutes I think is good.

We are going to play it around when we are doing the toasts/speeches. It's something for everyone to sit and watch. It will not be replayed throughout the reception.

I was just at a rehearsal dinner with this. It was lovely, but personally I've always said I don't have the time for this.

I bet this one was nearly 10 minutes - a TON of pictures! A little long as a guest; there could have been 20 little kid pictures instead of 50+, and they also included photos they had with all the different bridal party members. But it worked out fine and everyone loved it!

Both of my sisters have done this. I think they each did one song for themselves (pics growing up, w/ family, BP, etc.), and one of the same for FH, then one song with pics of their relationship.

However, even as their sister, I found this to be long... so keep your guests' attention span in mind for this. Since you're doing it at the rehearsal dinner, it's more likely to be a crowd that you and FH know more intimately, but I say keep it short & sweet!

    As short as possible, really.

My mom did this for my sister and has already hinted about how excited she is to do it for me. I'm dreading it--both FH and I aren't really big on being the center of attention. I agree that it's better at the rehearsal dinner than at a wedding, because it's a smaller crowd. But I was at one wedding with a buffet that had a slideshow going as the guests went up to get their food. That actually worked out really well and kept us all entertained. The bride & groom made sure to put a picture of them with every single guest at the wedding, so that was a nice touch!

I think my sister's was like Hailey's sisters'--one song for each of them, then one for them together. I'm thinking about asking my mom to include pictures of my family as well, kind of like "this is where we came from."

Keep it short n sweet. You can do a simple collage of photos of each of you growing up and your relationship developing together, or just some of your favorites along the journey of getting married etc....

Anything longer than 3-4 minutes is going to go dry...fast.

I did a slideshow for the actual wedding and I had about 120 pictures - it was about 11 minutes. BUT - I didn't have that as part of the reception timeline. I just set it to play through cocktail hour and in the bar/pub so as people passed by throughout the evening, they could stop and glance at a few photos. I included all kinds of pics - family, friends, baby pics, engagement photos, etc.... Got a lot of compliments!
