Rehearsal dinner – to decorate, or not?

Chrysta, on July 14, 2020 at 8:51 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16
Hello beautiful brides (and grooms)! As you are planning your wedding, I know a lot of thought goes into the ceremony and reception decor; but what about your reception dinner? Will you be hosting a simple dinner without decor? Or will you be going all out and decorating for this event as well? If so, will you be extending the theme of your wedding to your rehearsal dinner? (Bonus points for inspiration photos, or photos of what you did if you are already married!)

Because we are having a destination wedding, I don’t think we are going to heavily decorate for our rehearsal dinner. The first two photos are inspiration pics for our reception. The third photo is of the candleholders I had originally purchased to use for our reception, but have decided not to incorporate them. I’m thinking of maybe using those for our rehearsal dinner, because they are simple yet still give a hint of what’s to come the next evening.

Oooo! If we were having a large rehearsal party, I would totally be up for decorating. Since we’re not having a formal wedding party, it’ll just be us and our parents most likely at the rehearsal, we will just make reservations at a restaurant if we can or have some food delivered. Heck we may even have a BBQ if the weather’s nice.

But love your inspo pics...here are a few from our’s...of course we were inspired by the paper moon Smiley smile and our love for all things astronomy and astrology related.

I wish we could go more “all out” with our decor!! If we were getting married locally, I am pretty sure I would be going insanely overboard LOL But shipping all this heavy stuff across the US is costing a fortune!! It has really made me keep myself in check with my purchases 😆 originally, I wasn’t going to decorate for our rehearsal dinner at all, but since I have all these pretty geometric candleholders, I figured I’d just as well put them to use. Then guests can take them home with them if they want. Or we can just donate them to the restaurant. Heck, I may just give them to anyone eating there that may want them! Haha I just know that I am not paying to get all this stuff shipped back!!
(P.S. I have the blue celestial plates in your last picture!)

Yes!!! They were the first “decor” item that I purchased. I have 2 of the hurricane moon candle holders and about a dozen of the Orbit candle holders. I would love to hang stars but the ceilings at our venue are really high and there doesn’t seem to be anything to hang them from. I have a friend who is taking up welding and is going to make silver stars for our table tops (I want a mix of Silver and Gold with the Midnight Blue).

I think doing some lights and using the candles twice wouldn’t be a bad idea. Are you thinking of using the same decor or changing it up a bit for the rehearsal dinner?

My fiance and I are not planning to decorate for the rehearsal dinner. Our rehearsal dinner venue doesn't need much decorating to begin with. It's at a BBQ restaurant, and we wouldn't have much time to setup beforehand, so we figured we would leave it as-is. I think it would be a really cool idea though if you have the time to setup!! I like the decoration ideas you posted!

Thanks! As far as I know the Moon Candle Holders have been discontinued...I believe I got the last 2 that were in Stock on Wayfair but maybe if you do a reverse image search you’ll come up with something. Also the orbit candle stick holders were discontinued too....

You may be able to still find the plates on West Elm, but wait for a sale! They often put them on sale.

I think we will only use the geometric candleholders for the rehearsal dinner. The venue we chose for the rehearsal dinner is absolutely stunning and has amazing low lighting, so I don’t think we need to add a lot of decor. We probably wouldn’t have added anything, had I not had all these extra candleholders laying around with nothing to do with them 😆

Will you be leaving the moon candleholders as is? Or will you be adding moss or flowers to them?

My mom, grandmother and sister-in-law decorated the venue for our rehearsal dinner. My mom was really upset about two weeks prior to our wedding. My husband was in Alaska at the time so I spent the weekend at my parents' house so I called him to inform him that my mom was so upset and crying because she thought she'd be more involved in planning. My husband came up with the idea of having her decorate the venue. Our colors were red and black so that's what colors she decided to use to decorate. We weren't allowed to put anything on the walls so she primarily decorated the tables. She had one of our engagement photos blown up and had that at the entrance on an easel with lights around it.

Of course they were just laying around Smiley winking

FH asked what we’re going to do with all of this decor and the plates after-the-fact and I’m like “Keep them, DUH!”

We have one long communal table we’re going to have a runner of moss with some assorted bottles and vases with sprigs of ferns spread out. We have a few smaller tables as well where I thought we would place the Orbit candle/candleholders with orange and blue vintage glass votive holders. The flames have to be covered so that’s why we didn’t opt for tapered candles. I have some wire lights too...of course there have to be twinkle lights Smiley laugh

Hahaha! And that is exactly why I always tell brides to choose decor that they can use in their homes later! I mean, you are spending a lot of money on this stuff, you might as well be able to use it again! The celestial plates actually were not even purchased for our wedding – they are just my personal set of plates that I use in our home! (We will just be using the white plates at our venue) To be honest, I could probably decorate our entire venue with celestial items from our home 😆 but I don’t want to pay to have them shipped back home. I may keep a few items from the wedding/reception, but I think most of them will just be donated to our venue, because it will be too expensive to ship them back 😢

We did not decorate. Our rehearsal dinner was in the tasting room of the vineyard we got married at, so it was pretty enough in itself. We decided to leave it as it was Smiley smile .

We skipped decorating for the rehearsal dinner. For a dinner that lasted a couple of hours in a busy restaurant ...we didn't see the need to add more onto our plates.
