Rehearsal dinner woes...

I need advice. I want to properly host my rehearsal (good food/alcohol). Our wedding is sort of destination (about an hour and 20 mins from everyone) so most people will be spending the night on premise at the venue. My mother had originally told us that she was going to pay for the dinner and now 19 days before she's backing out and saying we should tell my FILs that they can pay. Thats not going to happen bc 1. Its rude and 2. I doubt they have the money even if they wanted to host. This brings me to my dilemma. FH and i have a small savings started for our honeymoon. We're going to have to use that money to pay for the dinner and drinks. I want to research local restaurants to find someone who can do a family style meal (chicken parm, salad, pasta, etc. Or even chipotle which all of our guest loveeee). Ive found a few places that seem like they would be delicious and cost effective. FH is giving me flack saying its too fancy. He wants to do pizza, wings and beer. Continued...

Wow, I didn't read that as OP being ungrateful at all. As a matter of fact she is trying to be a good hostess and invite all OOT guests.

I think pizza and beer is just fine! At first I was worried that it would be seen as too casual. But our wedding is very laid back and casual so I feel it would be more weird to have a super fancy RD. Besides who doesn't love pizza and wings??

I mean, there are some really terrible people that grace us with their presence on these boards. And, I'm sure it's easy to get jaded and lose faith in people when you read all the terrible ideas. But, I'm not going to throw stones for the sake of throwing stones. Read and process words. It's not hard. lol

Besides, I get it. I had a mild meltdown because we decided on two readers and having the deacon read the third reading and hubby and his family decided 5 days before the wedding that they wanted to discuss picking a third reader. I was upset at having to make a decision that was already off my to-do list 5 days prior. And that didn't even cost us anything. lol

@Rachel I think pizza, wings, and beer is perfectly okay. I also think it's sweet that you're thinking of your guests like you are. I disagree with those who tell you you don't have to host everyone. While they're technically correct, it seems the only "extra" people you're including in the dinner is your sister, aunt, and uncle and so in this case, I think you should host them as well. They're family and they're traveling. Plus, they're the only ones not in the wedding party so it would just be awkward to ask them to fend for themselves while you host everyone else. All the more reason to do pizza and beer though. You save the money you would have spent on the fancy dinner so you can include these three people.

And @LadyPearl would do well to actually read the thread before replying.

Any chance you could add wine? I think that would round out a very simple, delicious, and satisfying dinner.

I did pizza and wings as well. My wedding was a destination wedding. We were 6 hours away and it was fine. Nobody complained or expected anything really.

Pizza, salad, & beer/wine are totally acceptable. Its a rehearsal dinner, it is supposed to be casual!
