Rehearsal/rehearsal Dinner

McKenzie, on May 22, 2019 at 4:42 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 11

We are having our wedding on a Sunday and only have use of the venue on that Sunday starting at roughly 10:00 am. There is another wedding the day before ours so the option of using the venue for the rehearsal the day before is out of the question. I really want to have a rehearsal and a rehearsal dinner the day before the wedding because I'm the type of person that always needs a plan and needs to know whats happening beforehand. In other words, I don't like to just "wing it".

What are some good alternative spaces for having a rehearsal? I was thinking maybe going to a local park and doing a short rehearsal and then having our dinner at a restaurant nearby. Also, the restaurant we are thinking of having our rehearsal dinner at has a big banquet room that we could use. Any other ideas?

Your venue won’t allow you to rehearse on Saturday before the other wedding? My wedding is on a Sat but sometimes my venue does Fri weddings. They will let me know 60 days in advance if I need to have my rehearsal earlier in the day or if I can have a normal rehearsal time (5:00ish). Either way, I’m guaranteed a rehearsal the day before my wedding.

Someone is getting married there the day before at the venue.

I realize that and that’s exactly what my comment addressed. My venue, even if there is a wedding the day before (Friday), has guaranteed me a rehearsal on that day. I have to wait until 60 days out to find the time for sure. (That is their cutoff for booking a wedding.) If a wedding is scheduled the day before mine, I have to do my rehearsal before that wedding. If no wedding is scheduled that day, I can pick anytime I want. I asked the OP if she had the same option or could see if her venue would allow this.

No. At our venue when you book a Saturday wedding you get the venue from Friday morning until Sunday morning as part of your package. For a Sunday wedding, like ours, we only have use of the venue from Sunday morning until Sunday night. So it was made clear upon signing the contract that we would not be able to hold a rehearsal the night before the wedding. That is why I am looking for other options.

Ah, that makes sense. Some people say rehearsals are unnecessary but I need one just to put my mind at ease. Since you don’t have access to the actual venue, I think a park would be fine. Just give everyone a general idea of any differences that may be unique to your venue. A walk-through in a park is better than nothing at all! I think a park and restaurant would work just fine.

You can rehearse your wedding at a park as you said. It’s more about the order of lining up, where to stand, how to exit. Everything else comes naturally.

we had our dinner at a restaurant down the road from the venue. They had a private room you could book. Look around at local restaurants. Your venue might have recommendations too!

I'm sorry you aren't able to rehearse the day before at your venue. You could always opt to do things a little "backwards", so to speak? For example, you could have your rehearsal dinner at a restaurant close to your venue the Saturday before your wedding, and then the actual rehearsal Sunday morning.

I know you mentioned they said you couldn't hold one Saturday, but would they let you do it on the Friday before? Especially if it's not being used for the Saturday wedding. Or maybe ask if you could do a quick rehearsal Friday before their rehearsal so you know how everything will look and get familiar with the space, and then go to a park if you think you need more practice?

We are actually doing our rehearsal the morning of since our venue is a little far out to make everyone go there on Friday evening. If you're already planning on getting their early enough to get ready on Sunday morning, could you possibly do it then? Or a quick one after rehearsing in the park?? Just some ideas!

Can you use the venue space for the rehersal on that friday before? Then it's only two days prior

Can you do it the day before at 8AM? Or 9AM? If not, I'd do it in a park or hotel.

So if my venue books up the Friday before my Saturday wedding our rehearsal would be that Thursday and their rehearsal would be that Wednesday. I 100% would rather rehearse at my venue rather than keep it they day before. What's so wrong with planning the dinner two days before? It'll still be planned out.
