Rent The Runway bridesmaids dresses?

Ashley, on May 18, 2017 at 12:37 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Has anyone gotten or is going to have their bridesmaids rent dresses from rent the runway.com? What was your experience and how did your maids feel about it?

I did this. My bridesmaids didn't mind. However rent the runway messed up on 2 of the 4 dresses. It was a LOT of stress the week before the wedding figuring out who was going to get which dress cuz the one they ordered 3 months ago was damaged or returned late. Honestly if I had to do it again, I would not have them rent.

We decided against it bc Rent the Runway is NOT a reliable bridesmaids dress shop. It has worked for a lot of people but it has also ruined a lot of weddings. Please see the link below to read recent reviews of people that received messages 3 days before the wedding that the dress they reserved was no longer available, people who received damaged dresses, people who were overcharged for late returns, etc.

If I were you I would probably look at other avenues. Try vowtobechic they are also rentals and seems to have great reviews. Don't forget to check Azzazie, Lulus, Amazon, David's Bridal, and countless other stores. BM dresses don't have to be expensive. But you definitely don't want it to be uncertain.

I wanted to use rent the runway or vow to be chic, but neither one had the sizes my BM needed. One wears a 2 and the other a 24. Instead, we went to David's bridal during a $40 off sale.

Wow those reviews are horrible @Chica! After reading that, I wouldn't chance it @OP!

I have used RTR a few times now with no problem, but not for BM dresses.

Last week, my MOH just decided to rent one for my wedding next Thursday. After the wedding, I'll tell you about her experience in a BAM.

We'll be using Azzazie also! Rent the Runway would make me nervous!

As I understand their dresses cannot be altered. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're doing full length gowns and have anyone under 5'10" you're stuck doing a tape hem.

I only have MOH and no bridesmaids, and she's planning on using RTR. I am very relaxed about the dress she wears. She has a backup dress that she already owns but wants to wear something new. I have used RTR more times than I can count and have never had a bad experience.

I love RTR as a wedding guest, but it might stress me out a little as a bridesmaid!! Check out Vow To Be Chic which has rental options but is specifically created for weddings!

It addresses some of my RTR concerns - gets you the dresses earlier before your event (7 days), has 2 different length options, and has really detailed sizing charts and fit guidance!

@Soontobe2017 yes I know those stories are horrifying.

@GymRat I would totally use them for any event where there wasnt a need for a particular dress as there is for BMs. For instance, my coworker uses it all the time and loves it. But if she were to get an email 3 days before an event that she can no longer wear the D&G dress she intended she could just choose another, not so much the case with BMs. Its a little risky. With that said, I totally want to use it for my bridal shower.

@Catlady5x you are the perfect testimony as to why RTR cannot be trusted for BM dresses. An email at 8pm the night before WTF.
