Rental chair weight capacity

Genevieve, on February 8, 2023 at 12:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

So I just got the contract for my rentals and I was reading through it and in bold it says "IMPORTANT: chairs typically have a capacity limit of 250 lbs.; DO NOT PLACE OR ALLOW MORE THAN 250 LBS. ON ANY CHAIR PROVIDED BY TTP". So I'm not exactly sure how much my guests weight, I mean half of them I don't even know but some of them I do know definitely weight over 250 lbs. What am I supposed to do? The chairs are pretty standard wedding rental chivari chairs, I doubt going to a different vendor would make a difference since they all have the same chairs, but I'm not exactly gonna tell my 250+ lbs guests they have to bring their own chairs. If I do nothing and someone breaks a chair I would feel awful, I've broken chairs before and its pretty embarrassing. So where do I get chairs that hold larger people? Or is this just legal move so the rental company isn't liable if one of their chairs break under someone?

That is really odd, I have never heard of this before is there any way to get bariatric chairs or anything? I am guessing that this was because of an incident that happened. Usually those weight limits you can tend to get away with a little over, but I would definitely not put someone 350-400 pounds or more on those chairs though honestly, if you weight that much, then that chair probably won't be comfortable anyways, especially if there are arm rests you have to squeeze between. I would talk to your vendor about this to clarify.

FWIW, I weigh over a bit over 250 pounds, but that is because I am very tall (I would like to get under that lol but meds make it a bit difficult) and at a glance, I wouldn't look like I am over the weight limit unless you thought about my height.

See I don't believe we have any guests that would be over like 300 or 350 but I do know a couple over 250 and again I'm definitely not gonna start asking people their weight. The chairs don't have arms and they are like the mid range chairs, I could understand the plastic folding ones having a lower weight capacity but these seemed like normal dining room style chairs.

Then I wouldn't worry about it. This is probably in there just to cover their butts if a chair breaks. I think you should be fine.

Believe it or not, most chairs are only designed for max 250lbs. This doesn't necessarily mean 250lbs is the max load, it is just the maximum weight the chair has been tested against and is their CYA should a chair break and possibly cause injury. You can probably assume a factor of safety of 1.5 (low end 1.3) putting the actual weight limit at 375lbs (This will heavily depend on manufacturer) before failure.

Now, if you know there will be someone who weighs 350+, you may need to look into other heavy duty chairs

Oh interesting, well I'll have to check with my MIL about the guests I dont know but from who I know I believe the heaviest person probably doesnt even weigh 275 lbs. I just would like to be on the safe side, I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or worry about something breaking, but I think your probably right.

I think that sounds like it is just in there to cover their butts. I wouldn't stress about it.

Interesting. Thats a first. I would assume the chairs hold more than exactly 250. I would assume it'll be fine.
