Renting or buying linens?

Chelsey, on June 26, 2021 at 11:22 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 16
I am trying debate on buying or renting linens. I am a diy bride and wanting to know which one would be cheaper to do beings that I'm on a budget. Also, if you buy them where would be the cheapest place to buy them online, suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It was at least 1/2 cost buying ours at tablecloths factory.com instead of renting.

Thabk you! I have really been on the fence about it. I was going to hire someone to do our reception that had everything included but they were really sketchy about making appointments and stuff so I opted not to do that. I figured that if I buy th I could just reuse them or sale them.

    DIY isn't always cheaper.

With renting linens you are not only paying to borrow the linens, you are also paying to have them stored when not in use, washed before your event, transported to your venue, set-up, cleaned up after, cleaned, and taken away, as well as have any tags removed, etc.

We use cloth napkins at home. Per unit, buying them isn't that much cheaper than just renting and saving us all the time and hassle. With some buy vs rent items for weddings, you have the potential to recoup some funds by reselling items after, but I'm not sure there is a huge market for used linens.

Unless you are planning to donate them to your house of worship or regularly host large events, renting is nearly always more economical. You have to factor in your time and sanity at minimum wage per hour for pressing, transportation, setup/tear down, etc

I completely understand what you are saying, we are having a group of friends doing the set up and it's only about 50 people at the wedding including the the wedding party so we don't have a load of tables to put up and take down. I think I will look into a couple more places to rent from and get some prices thank you!

My suggestion is to buy your own. It's cheaper then to rent. I decorate as well and to rent sometimes cost double to triple than the actual purchase price. Let mr know what your trying to purchase and I can send you the websites I go thru

You can buy chair covers for under 2.00 a piece. Tablecloths depending on rectangular or round can go from 5 on up. Look at cvlinens.com tableclothfactory.com linentablecloth.com weddingdirect.com efavormart.com

Hello, I am diy older bride. I purchased all of my linen. I surfed the web and when there was a sale at certain suppliers I purchased in bulk. My wddking is an outdoor Rustic/Vintage theme.

DIY may be more expensive, depending on how many guests you're inviting. We asked our venue if they could throw in table linens and napkins for free and they said YES! Mind you, our wedding is in December so I'm sure they were willing to negotiate anything. Ask your venue if they can add linens and stuff, even if it's at a discounted rate. Negotiation is key!

I bought mine from efavormart. At like 10 bucks it was 50% cheaper than it would cost to rent them.

We bought our tablecloths from CV Linens and they are gorgeous! We did spend around $500 for 24 tablecloths, but it was still WAY cheaper than renting. We have several people in our family that can use them later on, so we felt like buying them was the smartest option for us. Just remember if you choose to buy, depending on the fabric of cloth you buy, you may have lots of ironing to do so it could be a lot of your time consumed.

I was mortified to realize that on average - it's much cheaper to buy by a few dollars each! tableclothfactory.com is the go-to I think someone mentioned. You can also check Offer Up - at least in my county, lots of indie party supply places list their items there sometimes because it's cheaper and easier than having a website. I'm in Los Angeles, so we have a whole district that sells party supplies and flowers. I was going to check prices there and if not I was going to hit up tableclothfactory for my linens and then resell them.

If you don't mind going through the hassle, reselling is great. Even if you don't sell ALL of them, you'd at least make back SOME money which would bring the price down even more. If you rented them, you'd get none of that money back.
