Repurpose MOB Wedding Veil

Amy, on February 14, 2017 at 9:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 7

Hi everyone!

I want to reuse the veil from my mom's headpiece circa 1985, and would love to know any tips or tricks if you have done this. I just want to remove the tulle from the hat, sew it onto a comb and possibly add some lace detail to the bottom.

How long does a project like this take? Anything you wish you would have done differently?

But I think this sounds like a lovely idea! What a way to honor your mom.

Sewing tulle to a comb is easy and quick. Adding a lace border is long and difficult. i am DIY'ing my cathedral length veil, and I am almost halfway through sewing the lace. It has this far taken me about 4 weeks, with me sewing maybe an average of an hour daily.

Adding lace will be difficult... I'm making my own veil but I'm just beading the edge and not venturing into lace territory (that scares me lol). There's a ton of info on pinterest about diy veils.

That's so sweet! I wanted to use the tulle from my mom's veil from the 80s but it was too yellowed to match my dress. I sewed a two layer tulle veil onto a comb and put pearls on top to hide the comb and left the edges unembellished, it took me about an hour start to finish (maybe just over an hour, but I was making it up as I went along, and it was the night before my wedding so I was also chatting and doing other things)

There are tons of tutorials on youtube about sewing the tulle onto the veil. It seems quick and easy. I dont sew. I really cant help on the lace part..seems tedious though.
