🆘 Reschedule Bridal Shower

Shell, on March 16, 2020 at 7:29 PM Posted in Parties and Events 0 2
Hello All!

My name is Shelby and I am the Maid of Honor at my best friends wedding this May (super stoked!). With that being said, the county my friend lives in is shutting everything but the pharmacies and grocery stores down for 2 weeks. This means the Bridal Shower we are supposed to be hosting April 4 (2 weeks and 5 days from now) is -technically- still a go. The reality is, this is all due to coronavirus and we have no idea how long those closures will last. The venue is unsure what is going on but they are, in theory, supposed to call a week before the event and either confirm or cancel our reservation.
SO - with all that being said, it’s a destination shower which means most of the family and friends RSVPd will be flying in. I’d like to give them ample notice in case they need to book new flights and what not. I’d suggest moving it to another city, but at this point it’s so close I’m just not sure WHAT to do anymore. 😭😭
Basically, any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated but my questions are: (1) would postponing the shower NOW to a week or two later be ideal or should I wait to see what the venue says about their closure? (2) since quite a few have to fly in from all over the country, should we be trying to find a different destination that is least likely to close and hoping they have a similar place and time? (3) how do I apologize for all of this?! I know they’ll know most of it is out of my control but some of them might be out a bit of money because of all of this.

Right now the recommendation in America at least is no gatherings of more than 10 people. At this point I would postpone the shower or cancel. I can’t imagine most people would want to get on a plane at this time.

When and where is the wedding? If the same people would need to travel to the wedding, could you postpone and have the shower the same weekend as the wedding? Well, actually, I don’t know if when in May the wedding is planned makes a difference, the wedding may need to be postponed too.

Try asking a few of the bride’s VIPs what they are comfortable with and what they would suggest, whether that’s cancelling for now or postponing until wedding weekend. I know a number of travel companies have relaxed cancellation policies right now. American Airlines, for example, will let you cancel. It’s not a refund of your original payment though, you’ll have a credit to be used on a future flight (just don’t wait too long after this clears up to schedule in case some airlines don’t persevere through this).
