Reschedule Wedding - 8.7.21?

Molly, on January 20, 2021 at 10:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Wedding date is set for 8.7.21. However, with the unknowns of COVID this has always been in the back of my mind that I may have to reschedule.

1.) My biggest concern is not having my dad at my wedding. He lives out of the country and with COVID right now, it makes traveling internationally very difficult. The cases are pretty low where he is at and they are very strict about letting people in and out of the country. They actually make people quarantine, not a "self home quarantine" like here, but a legit you are monitored and held somewhere by the government. I don't want to make him go through that when he has to go back. He's also over 65 so I wouldn't want to put him in any unnecessary risk while the spread levels are still pretty high in the US.

2.) My fiance's brother is in the military and just told us yesterday he's not able to make our wedding because his unit has a mandatory 2 month training starting in August. He is also supposed to be one of the groomsmen. He said it's fine to move forward with the wedding if he can't be here. My fiance also let his Dad know we are thinking about changing the date because of this and he said we shouldn't just because his brother can't be there. His dad thinks even if we rescheduled, he still might not be able to make it to our wedding if another mandatory training comes up or is deployed for the future date.

We just don't think it's right to not have his brother there for our wedding and at least try to reschedule this one because of 2 reasons. If he can't make the next reschedule, then we probably would just move forward anyways. But my dad is a must have at my wedding.

Thoughts from anyone else who has rescheduled or is planning to?

If you must have him there then I recommend you reschedule to August 2022.

Given the circumstances mentioned, I would probably move the wedding to 2022, or possibly later in 2021 (if available) but 2022 is probably more reasonable given restrictions and other concerns mentioned. Good luck with planning!

I understand the international travel situation. I'm struggling with this myself. Smiley cry If you are ok with postponing, I would just do it. If you feel good about it that's awesome and I'm also really jealous.

I think our concern is if we move it to August 2022, my fiance's brother my have another training around that time. So we may look into another month entirely.

Yes, I think that's probably the best option later in 2021 or around Spring 2022. Thanks!

I'm sorry you are also struggling with this. It's just so hard to predict what is going to happen in the near future. If everything goes back to normal and restrictions are lifted that would be so wonderful. But I'm trying to be realistic and considering a back up plan for an alternative date. Best of luck to you and your planning!
