Reserved Seating vs Seating Chart

FutureMrsB, on November 21, 2018 at 1:10 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Has anyone come across this decision and found it hard to make? I think the easy route would be to make 3-4 "reserved" seating signs. But I would almost like to make a seating chart by assigning individuals to a table but dont know how difficult thats going to be.

Anyone have some advice?

I would absolutely recommend a seating chart or assigning tables with escort cards. If you only do reserved signs for family your other guests might be split up from their families because people don’t sit themselves efficiently. You would need to have at least 25% more place settings/chairs/tables etc than people to ensure this wouldn’t happen. It didn’t take us very long to make our seating chart!

I think I was leaning more towards assigning tables. So would I make the table assignments based on the current guest list and make adjustments as I receive RSVP's back? Or wait to do any of this until I get RSVP's? Sorry if this is a silly question.

I made my seating chart based on guest list and removed and rearranged as needed when RSVPs came in - you may have an idea of who is or isn't coming and it'll help you get a head start!

If you don't assign people to tables, you will need to set for at least 50% more people than are attending. That's because it's human nature to leave spaces between seats, etc. I am doing table assignments now, and it is the roughest part about planning my wedding. People don't come in neat little bundles of ten. I have seating for 100 and only 90 people and it's still a huge challenge.

I waited until we got all RSVPs. But I’ve seen others do it early and make adjustments! So I think it’s a personal preference. And not a silly question at all.

I didnt even think about that! We over invited by 20 guests, anticipating that some people just wont show. That means that Ill have to wait until I start getting the RSVP's back! Oh man!!

We were going to assign tables but just getting our parents, grandparents, siblings and wedding party assigned took over 2.5 hours and we were done. I’m at the point where we are providing some extra seating but people will have to be grown ups and ask people to scoot over if they need a chair. 🤷🏻‍♀️
