Restaurant wedding timeline

Genevieve, on October 6, 2022 at 11:18 AM Posted in Planning 1 8
Hi all 💕 so I said in another discussion that we are having a ceremony and then paying for everyone’s dinner at a restaurant afterwards. Probably at Olive Garden, but our options are open. For brides who have done this, or guests who have been to weddings like this, how did the timeline go? I’d like to have cake cutting and maybe speeches, but that’s all I can think of. There probably won’t be dancing, we don’t really care about that and our guests aren’t really the dancing type. It’s a wedding of about 15 people. Basically I need timeline suggestions 😂 because all I have right now is cake cutting and speeches. Would that be enough?

Absolutely, that's enough. You don't even need to have speeches if you don't want to. I would contact the restaurant you want to go to ahead of time, because they may have a room that you can use, or an area that's a little further away from everyone else (even without having to pay for the space).

I would go ahead and do dinner and then toward the end bring out the cake and do the cutting (and toasts if you want them). There is no right or wrong (as long as you properly host your guests, which you are absolutely doing).

Okay that’s a relief! I wasn’t sure if that would be enough to keep guests from getting bored or something. But if that’s enough then that’s all I would do! 😊 I’m excited to plan it all out

People will chat and eat and have an awesome time celebrating you and your FS. We played music, but didn't really have dancing at our wedding - it was a great time.

I'm not sure if Olive Garden would be the best place for cake cutting and speeches as they attend to have limited spacing. I would recommend finding a restaurant with the private room you could rent that would allow for more space.

Otherwise I think your plan sounds lovely. I think your guests will enjoy getting a nice meal, relaxing and socializing. I don't think there is anything extra you need to add.

That's totally fine! You're having a nice dinner party, and people will chat and socialize.

Fortunately with 15 guests I think the timeline can be pretty flexible. I looked it up and at an average reception Dinner usually lasts about an hour and a half. Use that as the stepping stone and consider how much extra time you will want to talk and hangout. Whatever amount of time that is, make sure to communicate that to the restaurant so they can plan.

DEFINITELY agree to contact whatever restaurant you are going to and make sure they have the kind of space you want and need. Ask if there’s a place more sectioned off so you have more privacy. What you don’t want is other people walking into your space, to feel too crowded, or for music/sound levels to make it hard to talk to each other. If you Think you want Olive Garden, reach out to them ASAP and go over all those details. Honestly you can go out for dinner yourselves and ask in person to see their l as layout.

I’m planning to have a dinner only reception with about 60 people. I found the restaurant I have in mind just because we randomly went there one day and I loved the space.
