Reusing Ceremony Flowers?

Megan, on October 23, 2018 at 12:57 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 9

I am thinking of reusing some of our ceremony flowers for our reception but not sure how it will logistically work? Our ceremony & reception are on the same property, so all I can imagine is saying "I do" and walking back down the aisle only to have a designated person start gathering up the flowers to move them to the reception area before guests get over there for cocktail hour...

I am doing 2 larger arrangements on whiskey barrels like pictured below and wanted to reuse those on the cake table and guestbook table.

I am also doing galvanized pots down the aisle filled with blush astilbe flowers that I would want to bring into the reception area.

Our venue has (4) 24' tables I am doing garland as a "centerpiece" so that only leaves 6 round tables I need to have centerpieces for. Between my bouquet and my 5 bridesmaids bouquets I was thinking of using those for the centerpieces.

I want that "wow factor" when guests walk in the reception hour and not having missing flowers so again, just not sure how to logistically make it work, or should I not care?

Do you have a DOC? Our DOC is taking things from our ceremony to the reception as guests are filing out, getting to the next location, etc. If you have a DOC they should be able to figure it out and get them there on time for you!

You can definitely reuse your ceremony flowers for your reception. I did just that. I had two large tall arrangements at either side of the alter that were moved to be on each side of the sweet heart table during the reception. We also had flowers going down the aisle, which were re-purposed into arrangements for the guest book table, fireplace, and table with the seating chart. I just spoke to my florist about it and she offered to stay during the ceremony and move the flowers during cocktail hour and rearrange them for us. It worked out really well. You could try talking to your florist and see what they recommend.

Our DOC will be moving things over while guests are at cocktail hour.

We are using our ceremony pieces for the reception to save money. Our wedding planner is going to move all the floral pieces into the reception area while people are at cocktail hour which will be outside as long as it isn't raining. I believe she said she will take the main floral piece from the arbor & put it on the "head" table. We're also using lanterns as decorations & she's going to put them on different tables & flowers on tables without lanterns.

I definitely re-used quite a few of my flowers from the ceremony. The venue staff moved them from the ceremony to the various tables, bar, etc. where I wanted them for the remainder of the evening. I just wrote out instructions and they followed them. I also used my bouquet and the bridesmaid bouquet as centerpieces so I just had the florist set up an empty vase on those tables.

Do you have a DOC? Your idea could definitely work, you’ll just need some help. Easy fix!

I did this. I used garlands to drape over the pews at the church for the ceremony and then my DOC and florist worked together to move them to the reception venue which was about a 10 minutes away. We did this with the welcome sign and candles too. Here are pics of the garlands, candles and welcome sign at the ceremony and then again at the reception.

I don't have a DOC but I do have a couple of friends (who aren't bridesmaids) who I would trust to help. The problem I'm having is my venue is a 5 acre farm with the reception being in a barn. The ceremony site and the reception is literally a 3-5 minute walk from each other. Cocktail hour will be in the same area as the reception (unless I close off the upstairs of the barn and do it downstairs only, in which case I would have to get more decorations) So literally as soon as the ceremony is over, there is going to be a 5-10 window to get things moved if I'm going to reuse them and not have the guests see the reception space prior to getting those items there.

Are you having a cocktail hour? If you are, your day of coordinator or event manager should be able to move the flowers during that time.
