Reverse unity candle

SmileyBride, on June 14, 2017 at 9:22 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 6

Hello all!

I saw the idea of a reverse unity candle on line. I am a huge sap. And The oldest and first niece to get married on my moms side and I have such an amazing relationship with my FH's family so the idea that we will all be lit from the same light is symbolic and wonderful. I know my venue will approve the candles I asked. I am just wondering if any of you have done it and logistically how did you do it or is this just one of those Pinterest things that are better in theory!

What exactly is a "reverse unity candle"?

    I had to Google this.

Very sweet! It will take some time, of course.

Oh sorry so a reverse unity candle is when we take the light from our unity candle and it gets passed to everyone in attendance holding tapers. Then at one point we are all united by the same light. I am thinking that maybe every family/couple would get a candle or every few people. I am sure not everyone we are inviting will be coming to the actual ceremony but just in case

I've seen this done and it's a touching ceremony. I recommend a nice musical accompaniment as there can be some dead air while the light makes it's way around the room. Best wishes!

    This sounds really sweet!

Not to be a killjoy but be mindful of how drippy tapers can be. Perhaps your guests could have small votives and only you have a taper so that it's easier to light everyone's candles?

How many guests are you expecting? If you have a larger wedding and you want all of the guests to have lit candles, perhaps you could start with the aisle and have those seated closest to the aisle help light the candles of everyone in their row?

I love, love this idea. I think Rachel has a good plan. Our church used to use small tapers that had a drip guard/paper thing at the bottom for Christmas eve services. Even some of the older kids (7-9) could easily hold the tapers without a mess. I bet you could get the candles at any Christian book store that sells church some church supplies. Best wishes!
