Ribbon or Tulle Belly Bands

Masada, on April 20, 2017 at 11:19 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

Has anyone done a ribbon or tulle belly band? Did it increase your postage by much and/or was it hard to construct your invites? I'm considering something that ties rather than a traditional band. Thanks!

I've read other forums and brides are staying away from both. Different reasons, but mostly to save time and money.

    I think it depends on:

    * How many invitations you have to assemble vs. extra time you have to spare

    * Are your invites an odd shape or not completely flat? (adds more to postage)

    * Do you want to spend more money on something that's not that important to guests?

This photo is from a bride who bought 25yds of tulle from Joann's on the cheap, to tie around the invitation suite.

It was more than enough to tie together her invitation suite. http://www.joann.com/matte-tulle-6-inch-x-25-yards/zprd_14061949a.html

Thank you! That's the photo I've seen around as inspiration and have coveted the look but like you said, guests don't really care.

I did ribbon. I did have to add an extra ounce stamp but I'm not sure if it was because of that or not. My opinion it was worth it. I got a lot of compliments on them. Mine were easy I used glue dots to adhere the two ribbons then glue dots in the back to secure it.

We did. I DIYed the belly bands with ribbon, sheer paper, and a small piece of kraft paper. We had the invitation and envelope, RSVP card and envelope, and a Details card. We were JUST over 1oz and had to upgrade our postage to a 2oz stamp. I was fine with this because the 2oz stamps were gorgeous (and not available in 1oz) and actually matched our invitations pretty well. But if you are trying to keep costs down, I would make one invitation with the ribbon, put it in an envelope with everything, and have it weighed. If it's 1oz or under you'll be fine. If it's over, I would reconsider doing the invites with a band.

I used a wax seal and it was horrible! Any additions will have the post office charge you a special handling charge. I had to use 2 forever stamps for each invite and most of the seals fell off Smiley sad

So funny, I was literally just googling this too. I got my invites yesterday (from Minted...they don't offer belly bands) and was thinking they were missing something when I put them all together. I wrapped a suite with some ribbon from the packaging just to see how it looked and I liked it! I'm thinking of just doing ribbon (no bow) and securing it with glue dots.

@xray yours looks exactly like what I have in mind! I've been trying to find examples online that weren't tied in a bow.

Mine also needed a 2 oz stamp, but I think it was because of the heft of the paper, not the ribbon belly band. I kept the ribbon flat (similar to Amanda) because I'm sure a bow would have added extra headache. If I was going to be over 2 ounces anyway, adding the belly band was totally worth it.

I did a ribbon sealed with a wax seal (no bow) and loved it. Getting tons of compliments too!

    Postage was 70 cent

It's not the band it was the heavier invite paper & inner envelope

I’m looking on doing ribbon over doily and add a tag. Bought some glue dots as well. Will post if they turn out.

I will more than likely be adding ribbon to mine. I think it is a nice finishing touch. I am all about the details.

We got a custom wax seal and I’ve been trying to incorporate it into our invitations but I can’t figure out how. I’ve messed with ribbon and the seal 100 different ways and I can’t figure out the best way to assemble it. Do you have a picture of your invites or advice on how to actually assemble the ribbon/wax seal combo?
