Ribbon Wands...has anyone made them? DIY HELP

Tammy, on August 4, 2011 at 12:30 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

I would really like to do ribbon wands for after our ceremony. I've been looking on-line to find the best directions. Some use glue, some use hooks, most use wooden dowels you have to cut yourself... so on and so on. If you've made them how did you do it and what's the best way? Does anyone know where to buy the wands themselves without having to cut them yourself? Looking to do something similar to the photo. Maybe more print to the ribbon i.e. stripes or polka dots.

You can use the wooden bbq kabob skewers. I found some in the super market for 100 for like 2.00.

We did dowels, sewed the ribbons together at one end, and glue-gunned them to the top of the dowel. Then we wrapped a little extra ribbon around the top to cover up the thread.

You can makes really nice ones if you purchace balloon sticks from Oriental Trading. Thyey are super cheap, just $12 for 144 of them. You just pull off the cup from the end of the stick and glue some ribbon onto the end. So cute.

I create wedding ribbon wands for weddings in over 35 colors. I have many different styles, including candy-canned dowels AND gems atom each wand! These are very cheap, and a great way for a colorful send off PLUS take home favor Smiley smile

Might be a silly question, but when are ribbon wands used? I've never seen them at a wedding before, but they are super cute and I really like them!

Not a silly question at all. They are used at the end of the ceremony as you exit. Or I suppose you can you use them when you toast. I plan to use ours at the end of our ceremony as we exit the gazebo in lieu of rice or birdseed.

Just saw the oriental trading company post! Thanks so much. I'll buy those in the multi-color instead of cutting and painting dowels!!

Thank you so much Tammy! I love that idea! Never was a big fan of the bubbles or birdseed or anything like that (nothing wrong with that, but I want something different)... Thank you tho, I love that pic! Good luck! Smiley smile

We had both ribbon wands and noisemakers for the recessional - it was a big hit, and a lot of guests carried their ribbon wands to the reception and kept them tucked into their pockets, etc.
