Ribbon Wands

Tess, on April 12, 2015 at 10:16 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 1 14

Is anyone making ribbon wands for guests to wave after the ceremony? I like the idea, but after looking around it seems really expensive. Any tips for making them or places to find the supplies for cheap would be appreciated. Also, is anyone doing anything else creative for after the ceremony besides bubbles or sparklers?

Just bought bulk dowel rods on ebay. I got 136 foot long, 1/4" dowels for 33$ with shipping. I'll probably do the ribbons on there too! It was a good deal.

    Here's the link

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wooden-Dowel-Rods-1-4-034-x-12-034-Lot-of-12-50-100-250-500-1000-Cake-Tiered-Crafts-/251610262413?var=550512736146&_trksid=p2056016.l4276

There are even cheaper options if you want to cut them down yourself but I didn't want to do that.

I made my own! I used some expensive ribbons but that's an easy cost to control. Here's a tip I learned that really helped. So you have your wooden dowel and you have your eye hooks to screw into the top (got mine at Home Depot, super cheap). Use a thumb tack to punch a little guide hole in the top of the stick before you screw the hook in. That helps you make sure you're hitting the center and can minimize the chance that your dowel will split. I started by getting all the hooks screwed in, then I spray painted all the dowels. Then it was an afternoon of FMUL and I cutting ribbons and threading them. I strung a little bell on each wand too. We used about 4 pieces of ribbon per wand and they wedged into the hook so tightly that we didn't need to tie them in a knot at the top. I only had to tie the ribbon I put the bell on. I hope that all makes sense Smiley smile

I'm doing DIY ribbon wands. Hobby lobby has 24 pc packages of dowels and just get some ribbon and hot glue. I'm doing a lace ribbon with an ivory and burgundy ribbon and adding a bell with jute.

Rose petals ended up being cheaper than the dang wands! We wanted garnet and gold ones (FSU grads) but I didn't want to spend a couple hundred bucks on them, so since I had to cut two center pieces (lack of rsvps), I decided to use that money on the petals. Best decision ever.

I was planning on making them but other DIYs are becoming more important. I ended up ordering the wands in my colors from the link below

    https://www.etsy.com/listing/85192786/75-send-off-wedding-wands-any-color-two?utm_campaign=Share&utm_medium=PageTools&utm_source=Pinterest

    75 for $75 dollars with tax/shipping it was $87.

Ps if u want to do rose pedals like above poster ask your venue first--I know my venue doesn't allow anything like that.

I bought mine off of Etsy from https://www.etsy.com/shop/craftupyourlife

I paid roughly $64.80 for 40 wands with 3 ribbons and 1 gold bell.

We purchased our dowels from Home Depot. We bought 48 inch dowels and cut them into 12 inch pieces. I haven't ordered my ribbon yet because what I want is out of stock. But I will be ordering from crafta.com. The ribbon there is literally pennies on the dollar ie 25 yards for $2. I found the website after a bride from weddingbee recommended it. We purchased the bells from Michaels with coupons and bought our spray paint for the dowels at Home Depot and ac moore. The most expensive part usually is the ribbon, so using the website above hopefully you can really minimize your costs.

I made my own. Got the dowels from Joanne's online . 150 of them were like $5.00, and I bought the ribbon in bulk for about $20. They came out great!!

I got them from BBcrafts.com. It's a large spool that went a long way. It was much cheaper than buying the tiny ones that you have to constantly replace.

Also, I didn't use the hook, this is the method I chose. It was much easier IMO:
