Michelle, on July 14, 2019 at 3:26 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
Question is any one giving rice or bird seed to their guest ? To throw at you once you say your vows?

Most people don’t use rice anymore since it can be harmful to animals. Birds eat the rice, drink water, rice expands in their bellies and, well..it’s not good. Bird seed and dried flowers are great alternatives.

I love the idea of bird seed, but our venue asked that it not be done.

Just an FYI, rice is actually not harmful to birds.

We’re doing sparklers since we’re not allowed to do rice or bird seed and it’ll be dark. If it were during the day time I would have done real petals or bubbles.

We didn’t do anything like that. Rice isn’t harmful to birds (it’s a myth) but can be incredibly difficult to clean up and can also cause people to slip and fall. I’ve been to a wedding where we threw dried lavender and I thought that was nice.

While it isn't harmful to birds it's still messy, double check with the venue. Mine doesn't allow it because it's a good item. 🤷

Bird seed if you must toss something. Bubbles are an amazing option though.

No rice because it hurts animals. I’m pretty sure we weren’t allowed to use bird seed because it will be kind of a pain at our venue if there’s a bunch of birds destroying the grass. We’re going with dried flowers as confetti, you can buy it on amazon or Etsy.

I would check with your venue. Our venue wouldn’t allow many things due to the clean up.

I got bubbles that look like little champagne bottles! Bubbles look great in pictures!

Bubbles could leave marks on your gown depending on the fabric. I didn’t think any venues allowed for bird seed or rice to be thrown anymore, because it attracts birds (duh!). Flower petals are nice if allowed. Just pick something that is biodegradable and safe for the environment. Or you could hand out sticks with ribbon tied to the end for people to wave. That also has a pretty effect.
