Ring Anxiety?

A, on February 23, 2018 at 10:06 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 12

I've been engaged a little over a month now and am starting to realize that wearing my engagement ring makes me anxious. Heart racing mixed with mild panic and nervousness all day until I remove it at night. Does this happen to anyone else? I don't know why exactly. I wear a much lighter ring on my other hand and it doesn't give me the same reaction, but I can feel a huge difference on days when I leave my engagement ring at home. I love the ring and it is so pretty, but it is also kind of heavy (platinum). I'm not sure what to do. Wear the ring and hope the anxiety goes away after awhile, or find something simpler/lighter to wear in its place?

I do want to say that I have no doubts about my FH, so it isn't related to that. He is the one for me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Smiley smile

I'm not sure about the anxiety behind that, but I was extremely aware of the ring's weight for about a month. Now, I hardly remember it's on my hand since I'm just used to it. If you have no doubts about your FH or marrying him, then I'd just think the extra weight is just something to get used to.

Perhaps the anxiety isn't so much over the ring as the attention it brings? I have only been engaged for about 2 months and the first few weeks were very overwhelming for me. Everyone I saw had to look at it and ask a million questions about the proposal etc. I think either way it will pass with time. Good luck!

Does it fit correctly? as long as it fits it shouldn't be an issue of "falling off"

Maybe see if you can get a new setting with the same stone...white gold is much lighter than platinum.

I kind of get this. I've never really worn jewelry, so adding an engagement ring makes me TERRIFIED that I'm going to somehow break it or ruin it, so I find myself taking it off to do anything (washing hands, going to the gym, putting on face cream, cooking dinner, petting dog, ect..) It's been about three months, and I still haven't completely gotten over this weird anxiety, but it HAS gotten a little better with every day that I don't ruin it. You have to really ask yourself what's triggering this anxiety. That's the only way you can figure out a strategy to beat it.

Is it due to being afraid to lose It? I do think the anxiety will go away w time for sure. I was a bit anxious at first because I was afraid of losing it and people did want to see it more than I wanted to show it, bit after 2 months or so I got used to wearing it and people stopped asking to see it as much. I'm also not afraid of losing it anymore!

Is the anxiety because you're afraid something will happen to it? If that is the case, then you should get it insured ASAP. In terms of the weight and feel of the ring, that takes a couple months to get used to. It took me a couple months to get used to wearing my engagement ring for I don't normally wear something so flashy on a daily basis doing everyday things.

I had nightmares that my ring broke and the stones all fell out for a few months. I don't wear jewelry really so it took some getting used to. Now I know it's there and I make sure I take it off if I'm cleaning, or exercising and stuff like that but I got over the panic that I was going to destroy such a nice piece of jewelry.

Probably afraid something is going to happen to it. I've never had any expensive jewelry like this before. It is also maybe 1/4th to 1/2 size too large and kind of heavy, so it does move around a bit on my finger. I don't think it will fall off though.

I take it off for everything too. Washing my hands, cooking, cleaning, sleep... Smiley xd I guess it has been an adjustment getting used to it.

My ring was a hair too big at first and that made me way anxious, that it would fall off and I would lose it. Once it was sized properly that anxiety faded.

My FH gave me his mother's ring ❤ which at first had to be on my pinky until we got it resized. For about two months I was constantly worried about losing it, constantly checking it.. but I eventually got used to it and got over my fear of losing it.
Your ring means a lot to you and it's very special, I imagine your anxiety is about losing it and since it's heavier your more aware of it. I bet over time your anxiety will fade. Smiley smile
