Ring Bearer Question

This sounds like a silly question, but do people still have the ring bearer carry the pillow with the rings? I have seen photos of ring bearers holding cute signs instead. Are the pillows necessary? Any advice?

My 8 yr old nephew will carry a ring box with the real rings which we will give to him basically right before the ceremony. I think signs are cute though on the younger kids, I feel like 8 is too old for a sign.

Ours will hold a pillow, but no rings. No way I'm leaving our rings in the hands of a 6 year old lol.

Mine is carrying a pillow but the real rings will be carried by the BM.
