How old is he? I would say either option would be fine

I would have him do navy as well. The ring bearer usually matches the rest of the bridal party. We had the guys in full grey tuxes, and the ring bearer wore gray dress pants and a matching vest (no jacket) to coordinate with the groomsmen.

I would go with navy. I think it might look a little strange if he was the only one in black. Also, navy and black don't typically pair well together.
