Ring bearers and flower girl

Katherine, on July 16, 2022 at 1:52 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 12
I need ideas on what the ring bearers and flower girl should carry in during the procession? The wedding is traditional and formal and in a Catholic Church. I DO NOT like the whole signs thing—I think it’s pretty stupid. My family vetoed the ring security idea. Also nothing (including rose petals) are allowed to touch the floor of the church.

Ring bearers are 6 and 7 years old. Flower girl is 8 years old
Thanks!

Do they have to carry anything? If they aren’t actually carrying the ring, or flowers, technically they wouldn’t be ring bearers or flower girls 🤷🏼‍♀️ In which case, I would assume they could just walk down the aisle like the other members of the wedding party. You could have the boys “escort” the girls down the aisle like the bridesmaids/groomsmen, and you could have the girls carry small bouquets.

The ring bearer can have either a pillow or a ring box. For the flower girls, maybe they can have roses and hand them out as they walk down the aisle.

Our ring bearer is carrying a pillow made from the same materials as my dress. I'm still on the fence about if we are going to actually have the rings on them (with a single stitch to secure them) or not.

We don't technically have a flower girl, but we have a jr. bridesmaid who is filling that role (she's 12 so a bit too old for the flower girl). She'll be carrying a bouquet.

I was a flower girl in a formal wedding in a church when I was five - I carried a bouquet just like the other members of the bridal party. I don't think they have to carry anything special, or that a flower girl has to drop petals on the aisle or anything. I certainly didn't when I was one.

Many times ring bearers carry a pillow or box with fake, decorative rings to prevent the real ones getting lost. Flower girls can carry a decorated basket or a flower ball. There might be more creative ideas on Pinterest!

My nephew was just a ring bearer in my cousins wedding and he carried an empty ring box, though if your ring bearer is anything like him, put fake rings in the box as he was VERY upset that he didn't actually have the rings lol.

He's going to be "ring security" in my wedding, carrying a black tiny briefcase and we plan on putting silicone rings in there incase he peeks, but since you've vetoed ring security that's not much help lol

I like the idea of the ring bearers escorting your flower girl down the aisle! Otherwise maybe give each ring bearer a small pillow with a fake ring tied to it or a box, and your flower girl can carry a flower ball or a basket.

If it is customary in your area or parish to place flowers at the end of the ceremony as a Marian offering, you could have the children carry a large garland that could be used for that. They could all walk in together carrying it.

    Some inspo:

Could be flower girls have ribbon wands they wave as they walk down the aisle? Then nothing would be thrown but it would still be festive to herald you in? As for the ring bearer, a no or pillow with decoy rings would work.

I’m leaning towards the ribbon wand thing. I want to maybe see if they could make the ribbon pretty long so you can really swirl it like the rhythmic gymnastics ribbons.

If you are doing a unity ceremony you can have the kids carry that in and give it to the priest. That or you can have two of the kiddos hold your train (if it’s long enough).
