Ring can't be resized - anyone had "sizing bumps" added

Michelle, on May 22, 2013 at 11:35 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I talked to the jewelery store today (via customer service on the phone) and they told me my particular ring cannot be sized down except for adding sizing bumps. I have been wearing it for over a year now (and it has been loose this whole time) but since I needed to send it in to get it re-rhodium plated, I thought I would get it taken down 3/4 of a size.

Does anyone know why a ring wouldn't be able to be sized down? Also, has anyone had sizing bumps put in - are they uncomfortable? I am wondering if I should just keep the ring the way it is instead of adding the sizing bumps.

I have added a photo of my ring in case that helps.

It's the intricate detail of your ring - if they tried to resize it, it would ruin the design around the ring. I've never had a sizing bump so I can't give you advice there but I would imagine they wouldn't be terrible. Smiley winking

I've had them and they're not too noticeable. You'll get used to them and they can be taken out if you gain weight. Are you TTC anytime soon? If so ask them for a temp ring gaurd. It doesn't look he greatest but you can take it off easily.

I have sizing bumps because of my big knuckle and smaller finger! The first week it pinched a bit when taking it off at night but after that it felt like any old ring, I guess my finger got used to it! I love how it keeps my diamond straight! Also they can remove them easily if you don't like them.

I don't have them on my e-ring, but I have a ring that was my grandmother's that I wear almost daily on my right hand that has sizing bumps, and they don't bother me at all.

Do not get your ring sized before you wear it with your wedding ring. Putting two rings together makes them feel totally different. If you get them soldered together they are tighter too because they can't move like a single band does.

I had sizing bumps added to the inside of the engagement ring to keep it from turning.

I dont but my ring size is a 5.75 really ! So it took a month to keep my ering back and they decided to keep it at a 6 (its to big ) and my wedding ring the sized to a 5.5 and its to small .Also because it is to small i cant wear them together its one or the other . I would keep it the way it is quarter sizes are tricky and I dont want them to mess it up like they did mine

My wedding band is the correct size (7.5) but my e-ring is a 8.25 (FH had his parents trick me with a little ploy that got me to tell them my ring size, but I didn't catch on and didn't really know my size so I said somewhere between a 7.5 and 9?) FH guessed somewhere in between and figured we would be able to size it.

When I wear my band with it it still feels too big, so I will likely get the sizing bumps added. Thanks for all the advice!

I think it deals with the whole plating process and it would ruin the ring by resizing it. I had a platinum plated e-ring originally and it could not be resized (from a 6 down to a 5). Thankfully it was still within the 100 mark that we could return it but and picked out a new one together, it just sucked since he had picked the original ring on his own without me knowing.

They couldn't resize mine anymore bc of the detail to it and it would ruin the circular shape of the ring, therefore I had sizing balls put in and I don't even feel them. My ring is much more secure now that it fits properly

I have the bumps! Just like DlovesD, I have a large knuckle and smaller finger. I rarely notice them, but there are times when I can feel them when something directly hits them. Taking my ring on and off is another story though, it is very painful! Again, I think this is because my knuckles are larger than the base. Since you are just trying to make the ring smaller, you probably won't notice them one bit.

I have a detailed ring like yours, but my jeweler did say that they could resize the "normal" way or with sizing balls. I opted for sizing balls because I was so nervous about having them cut it to resize it (and what baby weight will eventually do to my fingers!). The balls are very comfortable and barely noticeable, and they can be taken off if the ring gets too small in the future.

Sizing beads are the BEST!! My engagement ring was top heavy so it kept spinning. And I couldnt get it sized down because it wont pass my knuckle. So our jeweler recommended sizing beads. At first i was hesitant but once I tried it on when it was done I was in love. It was so comfortable I couldnt even feel the beads! <3
