Ring Dipping

Bo Leigh, on April 15, 2017 at 10:03 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

Has anyone had their white gold ring dipped before their wedding? Is their a better place to have it done (ie. A small jewelery store or large chain - not Kay's)? How long did you have to leave your ring? Approximate price?

My ring is from Kay's and I had it done once already and it took a couple weeks I think. Then I went in recently and they said three weeks for it to be done. But I got my band from a local jeweler and she said I'd have it back within a few days. So I would go to a local jeweler if I were you.

I'm talking mine in per the recommendations of my jeweler. I'm not sure if he will just clean it or if he will dip it or not. Either way. He recommends that afterward the ring be put away until the wedding to ensure that the color and shine match the wedding band.

My ring is from Shane Co, and they dip it at no charge. If you're having to pay for it, shop around. Just make sure if you have a warranty or policy on the ring that there's nothing that dictates where you have to take it for repairs & dipping.

Mine is from a local jeweler in town and he dips them for free in house. I had it done once after he sized it down for me and it honestly took him about an hour to dip it and call me back. Personally I don't trust sending my ring away and would feel more comfortable having it done in house somewhere.

Thanks! I'll look into my mom's jeweler as soon as I get to Georgia.

Its called rhodium flashing. I sold fine jewelry for many years and your jeweler should do this for free. All of us sales ppl knew how to do it, it just takes minutes.

As for being afraid to leave your ring or sending it away, no worries. Diamonds don't get switched and I never heard of rings getting lost.

@Teri, Final flashing of Engagement ring the week of wedding is fine, it will match your wedding ring.

My ring is from Shane Co and they do any cleaning, polishing, repairs, and redipping for free. I brought mine in the week of the wedding and said "I need this done by Thursday at the latest" and they made a note of that and it was done two days before we had to leave for the wedding.

I recently got mine back. My ring is from brilliant earth so when I ordered my wedding band I sent in my engagement ring to be dipped. It took a full 3 weeks, which felt forever

My local jeweler cleans my ring at no charge but last time I was in we talked about a dipping prior to wedding. He told me he would clean and polish in detail and do a dip for me for $30 bucks and would take about 15-20 mins to do

Local jeweler for sure. I will never step in a Kay store again! Nothing but headaches with them.

I am bringing my engagement ring and having my band soldered to it this Saturday. They are also going to do a rhodium dip.... one hour and a half, and I will wait for it there!! :+)

If my ring had been bought at my local jeweler this service would be free, but it was bought abroad so it costs me $30/ring to have it redipped, but they do it on site, same day.

@ WWJo that's really good to know. FH bought my ring online so I don't have a go-to jeweler or service plan. I'm thinking about finding a local jeweler to do the dip and soldering (probably) before the wedding. Maybe I'll go with wherever I buy FH's ring.

I took mine in about a month before the wedding to the shop where it was purchased. It's a chain, but not as big as Kay's or Jared's. It was done in about 5 minutes and looked brand new.
