Ring envy...

Shaila, on April 14, 2014 at 1:26 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 40

Such a silly question..

up until now I haven't had ring envy because I loved my ring and haven't even seen anything else I'd rather have.

just the other day some one i know got engaged and her diamond is huge.. so i guess im having diamond envy more than ring envy.. lol

but im getting mad at myself for feeling this way... because i love my ring and FH had it custom made just for me, what more could i ask for? i just feel so dumb for feeling jealous of this girl..

anyone else ever feel like this/ what do you do?

There's only two things you can do:

    1. Get over it

    2. Tell your FH you want a bigger/different ring and risk hurting his pride/feelings.

If it really isn't something you can get over and you know FH can afford something bigger/better, then all you can do is ask

I think thats normal. Especially if a bigger diamond was not in budget at the time. Just remember you will have anniversaries and that is opportunity to upgrade. I know of many brides who have changed the mind out the style of ring they like and want something a lil different.

I get ring envy every now and then. My husband chose quality over quantity, so mine is definitely not huge. Jealousy is a normal thing. Just remind yourself how much you love your ring and what it means to you. Remember, bigger is not always better Smiley winking

Just remind yourself how lucky you are to have that ring. You said it yourself, he had it custom made and picked it out/designed it himself. My ring isn't the biggest nor the smallest I've ever seen, but it's the absolute best in my opinion, because he picked it out all by himself for me. That may not help you, but it's how I feel! Smiley smile

I don't understand ring envy, but I'm the girl that went in, tried on a 1 carat diamond and said no, that's too big. I don't want it bigger than 3/4 of a carat.

So many other thing go in to diamonds, quality is so much more important than quantity. Remember that.

I love my ring. Granted I was at a friends house on the weekend and was looking at some of the other girls rings and I was like WOW those are huge rocks. But then I look at mine and smile because it was given to me by FH and I love it.

Besides, I would be so worried to have a huge diamond and smash it into a wall lol.

Yep to what Rach said. I haven't had it because I know everything that went in to having it designed just for me. He actually wanted to do a bigger stone and I talked him out of it. As Ashleigh said, bigger is not always better. Smiley smile

Since I got engaged, 3 of my close friends have all gotten engaged, and their diamonds are all bigger than mine. I do have to admit that I get a twinge of envy now and then. But then I remember that my ring is perfect *for me*, that I don't wear a lot of jewelry anyway so anything too big would probably make me uncomfortable, and I'm super proud that FH didn't go into debt for it. Even though my ring isn't huge, I doubt I'll ever upgrade.

So I guess just understand that what you're feeling is normal, but don't let it eat away at you. Your ring is special and perfect because it is YOUR ring, no one else's.

This is normal girl, it happens to us all. For all you know that ring your friend got was from a sell, a family gift, a knockoff store, online, discount webite anything... maybe she picked it or he financed it.. never know.

I have a close friend that has a freaking rock on her hand that is literally the most perfect ring I think I've ever seen, but i love mine as a whole so much more

I love my ring also. i've been very happy with it. but i'm with you. the other day i went to the dentist office and the girl that checked me out had a ROOOOCK. i found myself trying to cover mine up. i hate that i felt that way...

it's super silly and stupid that i even feel that way. my ring is gorgeous and exactly what i wanted. i definitely find myself having diamond envy sometimes. i'm a girl. wtf. it happens! but i just have to remind myself how blessed i really am. we all have silly moments!

I've had a few of those ring envy moments. i do love my ring because FH picked it out all on his own and I wouldn't want to hurt his feelings. But sometimes I think I wouldn't mind a little bit bigger bling.

I see so many giant rings, and FH asked me for months after he gave it to me if it was too small. I told him nope! I think a lot of the big rings just really aren't my style. My diamond may be only .25 carat, but it's also hand cut and 133 years old!

I guess we can all try to remember, that no matter how big your ring... there's someone out there with a bigger one. LOL. i mean, unless your the richest and the SHIIIIT. but really. y'know. haha.

I proud of my ring, even if it's less than a carat. Whatever.

It sucks to feel that way. Maybe focus on something more important, like help out a charity, think about how awesome you are... Use your energy for good!

Hahaha this all so true! and it has really helped just to know im not a total brat for feeling this way! because I am soo blessed with what FH gave me, and like Jenna said, i am a girl and do love bling, but not enough to make FH go into debt for a 2 karat. thats just stupid.

Shalla, I vote for 'cut yourself some slack'. If we could all just say, "I want to feel X!" there'd be no need for therapists (which happens to be my profession). So accept that's how you feel-- it will pass faster if you don't tell yourself you shouldn't feel that way. Yes, you want a bigger ring-- we all feel the bite of the green eyed snake from time to time. As long as you *know* that it's not how you want to feel, instead of blaming your FH for buying you such a small diamond, or whatever, it will pass, no harm done.

I'm just like @Jessica! I'll see a bigger diamond and think, "Man! That thing is huge!" ... But I'm not a huge diamond kind of girl... I'll look down, see my ring, and smile because it's beautiful and it's all mine! FH made a comment shortly after we got engaged about how he should have gotten me something bigger, but I love my ring! (See pic #1)

When we bought wedding bands, he wouldn't let me get the one I was planning on (or even two of them! Pic #2)... He said they were too small. So instead I got the loveliness in picture #3!

In the beginning I def had my ring envy moments here and there but now i am over it. especially bc my moms ring is 3 carats and my FSIL is 2 carats.

My FH also chose quality over size so mine is def not the biggest but it shines like no other i've seen. and I was seriously thinking about it this weekend and i was secretly smiling at my ring bc its so shiny even when its dirty that you notice it from a afar and i would never trade it for a big one. that and its unique love it ah!

It is so true, I do look down at my ring and smile bigger than anything and it still gives me butterflies.
