Ok, I think I have a problem. My fiance gave me his mother's diamond solitaire. I wanted it set in white gold instead of yellow gold, with the diamond in platinum. We went to Belden Jewelers (which turned out to be a mistake). The prongs were set twisted TWICE before they finally got it right (about a month later). However, once it was set right I figured it was all set and I finally had my perfect ring.

Well, now I just recently noticed that there are no markings inside my "gold" ring. There's no manufacturer's stamp, and there is no marking indicating the number of karats. Everything I can find online says real gold ALWAYS has these markings. But before I go and cause a big stink and demand my money back, I want to be sure, so I'm thinking I'll have to pay to have it tested.

Any experts here? Does your ring have markings inside? Did anyone else get a ring from Belden and does it have a marking inside?

HELP!

If it's a jeweler who actually made the ring himself, there's a chance he forgot to stamp it. If he ordered it in, there should be a stamp. Some do get through QC stampless though, mistakes happen. There are always these horror stories of diamonds being swapped out...but no one can ever really come up with WHO it really happened to! The chances of having a diamond swapped are miniscule; unless the jeweler is swapping out the Hope diamond and is able to retire on the profits, they'll lose money (through lost business, and lawsuits) in the long run. No normal jeweler would even CONSIDER doing this. As for a reputable jeweler - I trust anyone listed on pricescope.com. Their top recommended one is "Bostonian Jewelers" on Washington Street.
