Ring loose in the winter

puppybagel, on January 5, 2016 at 2:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

My ring (I use my e-ring as my wedding ring, so just one) used to fit pretty snug, but now that the cold weather has hit and my fingers are tightening up, it's a little loose. Googling the problem lead me a magazine article suggesting a "cushion solution" product that adds a removable pad to the ring, but the reviews are meh. Anyone ever use a similar product? Any other tips or tricks to fix a loose ring in the winter? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I wash my hands in hot water a lot. I'm not kidding. I don't think it's worth it to spend money on something I MIGHT get use out of MAYBE three months of the year.

I bought some clear plastic ring guards from Wal-Mart. Around $5 for the pack of them.

Put a bandaid around the backside.

I use a product called RinGuard. It's the only ring guard that I find comfortable. I've tried 3 different kinds and found them all uncomfortable until this one:

Thanks, everyone! I had never heard of the plastic ring guards. And yeah, Jersey Jen, the idea of them sounds pretty uncomfortable, glad to hear you found some that are comfy.

I have the same problem annie. Now that I have my wedding band my e-ring is fitting better, but it was getting pretty bad in December. I walked all over the mall loving for ring guards. I'll be trying walmart now that I know they have them.

I think it was Elizabeth (VW Elizabeth) who shared this before. Check into "Ring bumps". They give space for the natural expansion, but also hold it in place when your hands shrink in the cold. My hand size varies quite a bit. Since my ring is snug during our awesome FL summers, but is really loose in my icebox of an office sizing isn't really an option.

I agonized over getting my ring resized for the same reason, but I decided against it because the problem is relatively short-term each year. One reversible solution I did look at, though, was applying some food grade silicone on the inside. This woman gives instructions: http://www.natashalh.com/how-to-resize-your-ring-to-make-it-smaller-at-home-easy-and-reversible/ I can't speak to how well it works since I never actually tried it, so obviously do some more research first, but it might work better than wearing something extra. I'm so glad you posted, mine does the same thing! I was debating getting it resized but I was afraid then it would be too small the rest of the year! I love all of these suggestions!

Yeah, I'm definitely not going to get it resized because this is only a temporary problem. Thanks again for the other suggestions, all. I'm going to try the plastic guards (because that's probably the easiest and I'm lazy) and see how that works out. Will definitely keep the other suggestions in mind if not. I wish just washing my hands a lot would do it, but doesn't seem to be helping now that it's so freakin' cold.
