Ring Sizing

Kara, on April 4, 2018 at 3:18 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 34

Right now I have the Ring Snuggie things that come from Walmart on my Engagement ring. I have tiny fingers. I don't want to get my Ring sized because I've been working on gaining weight and I also am sure I'll have another baby someday. I've read about the sizing beads jewelers put on and also other forms of ring sizers that are like the ring snuggie. I just feel like the ring snuggie is too bulky? Any suggestions at what you would do as an alternative to getting your ring sized?

My ring is a white gold Neil Lane ring. I’m a size 5. My ring is either 6 or 7. I’m assuming whatever the standard size is but I’m not sure.

My ring was a little too big for me too when I got it but resizing wasn't really an option because it would ruin how the diamonds on set on the bypassing band. So we went to a local jeweler and they recommended sizing beads. They added two small beads that matched my band. They did a really good job. It looked like it came that way. Now my ring fits perfectly. So I would recommended sizing beads. It didn't cost too much either. Then if in the future I have a baby and/or gain more weight then I can always have the beads removed. I think that's less stress on the band and minimize the potential of ruining your nice ring. But talk to your local jeweler and get their opinion.

I thought the sizing beads were more of an assist to keep the ring from spinning? For example, I wear a 4.5, but during the winter my ring spins constantly. I don’t want to get it sized any smaller because it’s properly fitted during the summer and when I eat a lot of salt. My ring was resized from a standard 7 to a 4.5. You’re much more likely to lose small diamonds from the side when the ring gets resized that much so make sure any lost side stones are covered if you do decide to resize. Will weight gain change your finger size that much? I definitely do not weight what I did 15 years ago in high school, but my ring size has stayed at 4.5.

I mean you have enough of a shank to size down to a 5.5 but I wouldn't go smaller. You can size a ring up and down (within a certain margin) without hurting the integrity of the ring. Depending on the setting of the stones in the band you may only be able to go up and down one size.

Honestly I wouldn't suggest sizing beads until you know precisely how different your actual ring size is from your rings' size. The larger the beads the more annoying they are. I never suggested them for actual sizing, only to keep rings from spinning or for people with arthritis in their hands. They may be useless if you are too big of a sizing discrepancy. Also if you choose to remove them after a certain amount of time you may need to do a new half shank which could be $200-$300 depending on the jeweler.

Take your ring in for a consultation. With an experienced independent AGS jeweler you really don't want to play around with repairs when your ring has so many stones in the band.

I use these that I bought from Amazon. The best part is there are 3 sizes in the pack and you cut it to be exactly as much as you need. I also attached a pic of what mine looks like and I don’t mind it at all.

I only use 3 loops so it’s not bad. It took some getting used to, but so did wearing the ring itself. At this point I actually like the stability of it but I’ve never worn the “ring Snuggie” so I can’t say for sure if it’s less bulky.

I wear the coils as well, my ring is a size 4, but it comes off much too easily and the diamond falls to the side, so these help keep it in place. They don't feel bulky to me unless I cut them wrong. They won't size my ring down any further, so this is a good solution for now. I also use more than just 3 loops depending on the size of the coil and it doesn't bother me.

My sister has super tiny fingers and she has sizing beads on her rings, she said she doesn't feel them at all, and they keep her ring secure. You can't see them unless she takes her ring off, and they can be removed without damaging the ring if needed in the future.

I use the ring noodle or coils as some have said. I hardly notice it at all.

I use the ring coils - I'm still trying to figure out how I want my ring to fit. It's crazy how differently it fit at the end of last summer when I got versus during the cold winter. The coils posted above look exactly how mine look. I use the tiny coils because my band is very narrow. I don't notice it at all!

    I second this!

My ring also has stones in the band and it was a size 6. I needed a 5, but when I talked to a jeweler they recommended not sizing it down due to the stones on the side and if they didn't get the curve just right, I would have issues later on with the band stones easily popping out. So I had the store special make me the exact same ring in my correct size. For reference, this is how far the stones went down on my previous size 6 ring.

Best part about it was that they let me keep my large ring to wear while I was waiting for my correctly sized ring!

ETA: Forgot to mention that the special made ring in my size was done free of charge by the same company FH bought my ring from.
