Rings match/mismatch

Suzanne, on July 9, 2022 at 5:18 PM Posted in Planning 4 13
Hi! I’ve been engaged for awhile and I just received my wedding ring, which is my fiancé’s family heirloom. It’s very pretty. I always envisioned my wedding ring to be gold or rose gold. This ring is actually white gold. Most people have matching bands that go with their engagement/wedding ring and husband’s ring. Does anyone here have a mismatched engagement/wedding ring and band and/or husband’s ring? Have any photos?

My rings won’t match FH’s. My engagement ring and wedding ring will both be platinum, and his wedding band will be yellow gold. I know generations past have done the matchy-matchy thing with rings, but modern couples have strayed away from that tradition, and are mixing metals- you don’t need to match your spouses ring; your engagement ring and wedding ring don’t even need to be of the same metal. If you love the heirloom ring, and don’t mind the mixed metal, then don’t give it another thought ☺️

Same as above. My engagement ring (an heirloom) and wedding ring are platinum, and my husband's ring is yellow gold

My rings are white gold and H's ring is tungsten carbide (though he usually wear silicone, since the tungsten can't be cut off).

I have mixed metals, white gold engagement ring with yellow gold wedding band, and specifically wanted that. My husbands band is tungsten. They definitely don’t match but it doesn’t bother me in the least. I think having an heirloom ring would be so incredible!

We just picked up our bands! Both my wedding ring and engagement ring are white gold and my fiancés wedding band is titanium. He says they match, but I’m not sure lol. But we just happened to like what we like. We weren’t trying to match or anything

I thought my wedding band and my FH’s ring had to match, but he surprised me and requested a gold ring (mine is white gold). I figured he should have what he wants and I should have what I want. No pictures yet, but I am happy with our decision!

I had a low key engagement ring that I wore when we were engaged. When I picked out my wedding band I picked it out with the intention of not wearing my engagement ring stacked with it. If I do wear it, it’s on the other hand. My husbands wedding ring is a different color than mine simply because he liked the way it looked. I didn’t want him to wear a certain color just because mine was that color, he is the one that has to wear his ring all day every day 😭

As others have said, we're wearing what we like. We don't have the same style in jewelry, and that's totally fine. My bands will match, but his will be totally different than mine. And even if I have some opinions about men's rings, I'm keeping those to myself. I want him to wear whatever makes him happy; whatever he likes. It's his wedding band, and I want it to be special for him.

Although my bands will match, I certainly see no issue with wearing mixed metals for your set. I can certainly see that looking very nice. And if it's an heirloom, that just makes it even more special. I hope everyone's answers help put your mind at ease.

I'm getting my engagement ring soldered to my wedding band, so I wanted those to match, but FH's ring is a different metal. I figured he's wearing it for the rest of his life, so it's more important that he likes what he's wearing than it to match mine. They'll only be photographed together for detail shots, and any other pictures they'll be so small it would be hard (if not impossible) to tell they're different.

My wedding ring will be platinum but my engagement ring is white gold. I’m doing this because I’m very active with my hands and want a stronger metal. So they might kind of “match” but won’t be the same metal. FH hasn’t decided but he found meteorite very interesting. Personally, I’m very drawn to the metaphysical and find that different metals work best with different people so it’s best to go with what attracts each of your rather than placing importance on matching parter rings.

Mine is white gold and his is yellow. Yellow goes perfectly with his skin tone and white with mine.

Doesn’t need to match, just has to be yours.
