Rings!!

Kelly, on December 23, 2019 at 10:27 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
Hi everyone!! i finally picked up my engagement ring and i’m obsessed. I am SO paranoid about scratching it or breaking it or getting it dirty. I grew up with my grandmother never removing hers but i hear of my friends only wearing it out of the house ( to avoid wearing it while cleaning , cooking sleeping wetting hands). what are your opinions? When do you take your ring off ??

Also if you do take it off where do you keep it?? all the ring holders i am finding seem to be glass dish type holders, will that scratch it ??

I never wear my rings when sleeping, showering, cleaning, or washing dishes. When I take it off, I either put it in a ring dish (no, they won’t scratch your ring) or I put it back in the box.

I remove my ring for cleaning, showering, the gym, swimming, and sleeping. As soon as I take it off, it goes straight in the dish. Laying your ring in a glass dish isn’t going to scratch it unless you plan to shatter the dish and rub the sharp edge on the ring.

At first I was very careful with it, but now I wear it all the time . I try to take it off when working out, showering, sleeping, or handling raw meat when cooking.

Check out "ThePaintedPress" on Etsy. They have air dry clay ring dishes that can be personalized. They're shatter proof and make for great gifts. Also very inexpensive.

I take mine off for sleeping, showering, cleaning, messy cooking and working out. I have a few ring holders in the bedroom, bathroom and the kitchen I actually use an old candle lid. Something so it doesn’t fall down the drain. Working out or traveling, I use a ring wristband called ring bandits. It keeps my ring on my wrist when needed and is flat/flexible for travel. Costs about $20 or so. I love it.

I take my ring off when I shower and I keep it in my bathroom medicine cabinet lol... only because my cat always hovers in the bathroom when I shower and he would probably eat it if it was in a ring dish or something :p Otherwise the only time I take it off is to do dishes or cook if it’s something messy, or clean if I’m using cleaning products or something. But otherwise I always have it on. The durability depends on the material of your ring though. My ring is a 14k white gold band and diamond stone so I’m not too worried about it since it’s very durable material. If you have a sterling silver band or a non diamond stone I’d be more concerned about it getting scratched up or something

I take my ring off whenever I'm cleaning, at the gym, washing my hands, showering, or sleeping. It goes straight into my ring dish whenever it's not on my hand. I'm more concerned about the prongs getting caught on things throughout the day, which is why I take mine off so often.

I take mine off as soon as I get in the house. I don't cook, clean, shower or sleep in my ring. I place it back into my ring box for safe keeping.

Wow I must be the only one that wears mine all the time. I rarely take mine off unless I’m painting or working in the dirt outside but other than that I wear it. It’s insured so I’m not worried about it.

I wear mine all the time, minus sleeping, showering, cleaning and cooking. Anything that involves getting the ring dirty I take it off. I have 2 ring holders, not a dish. One is a cat with a long tail where you put the ring, and another is an elephant with a long trunk.

My jeweler allows me to have free cleanings several times a year and I polish it on my own. My personal feeling is if it's a quality ring it should withstand and if it doesn't that's what a jeweler is for. I keep it in the box if I don't have it on ( in the summer at the lake or swimming in general or home improvement). But other than that I never take it off! I also plan to have it bonded to my wedding band and that won't be removed.

I take mine off for cooking, cleaning, and to shower. Other than that, it stays on my hand - I feel weird having it off and immediately put it back on when I'm done with whatever. It goes into a few clay ring trays I have around the apartment - i found a maker on etsy that customized it with our initials and the date he proposed. Honestly, a good ring should last. I worry because my ring has high set prongs that catch on things, but so far I haven't had any issues.

I only take mine off to shower or if I will be doing something that could damage it. Moving furniture, scrubbing something etc. I keep a glass ring holder by the kitchen sink, no scratches.

When I am at home, yes. When I am in public, not always. I get scared of losing it. I would be more worried about cleaning supplies/chemicals, dirt, things like that. But in the end, diamonds are very resilient. Just take care of it. I get my rings cleaned regularly and they still sparkle like new (my engagement ring has been worn for 13 months and my diamond wedding band for almost 3 months).

I wear my ring 24/7. I'm old fashioned, so I'd never go without my engagement ring, or at the very least my wedding band when we're officially married.

But I agree, I do remove it for certain things like cooking, showering and working out. But my advice is get comfortable, and confident with your ring. Purchase ring insurance and/or protection plans. I did this so if a stone falls out, or it becomes damaged, it's covered by insurance. I also clean my ring frequently, about once a month at least, if not more if I know I am going to an event of sorts.

That being said, my ring has stayed in pristine condition so far. Smiley smile

Yeah okay i'm glad i'm not the only one lol i was reading these comments and thinking how "careless" i might seem Smiley xd i shower, sleep, cook (unless handling raw meat) and everything. i do take it off most times doing dishes or playing sports. we are also insured with a diamond guarantee so i'd rather not take it off and chance losing it

I wear my ring all the time. The only time it comes off is if I am putting lotion on my hands and that is only for a minute or two. It is platinum and diamonds and the jeweler told me I didn't need to worry about it. I also have ring insurance in case something happens to it. I made sure my ring was low profile so it doesn't snag on things during the day.

Jewelers will recommend you don't wear your ring all the time - they suggest taking it off for sleeping, cooking and prepping food, showering and swimming, cleaning or washing dishes, gardening, and working out, or any other activity that involves intense physical use of your hands (like construction projects, dentistry, etc).

I wear my ring typically when I go out but rarely around the house and never when doing any of the things mentioned above. I have a pretty physical job and we have a pretty active dog, so there are plenty of days when I don't wear it to work or skip wearing it altogether. Whenever I'm not wearing it it goes into its ring box, which is kept either in my purse or my nightstand in our bedroom. Our house is a small ranch so those two spots are never far away. My friends with larger houses have ring dishes in multiple rooms of the house (usually bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and some other rooms as well).
