Roadtrip Honeymoon?

Allana, on January 28, 2019 at 12:25 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11
We are taking our honeymoon to a very different level and taking a cross country road trip from VA to WA state USA. The trip is one way 41hrs and we will be taking two weeks total with a longer pitstop in WA state. Any reccomendations on places to stop things to see or even advice for the hours upon hours we will spend together in the car?

And on a side note: Would you ever consider a Roadtrip Honeymoon?

Sounds incredible. My husbands parents do a roadtrip every year.
We have yet to do the same. One place we went to (flew) that was on my bucketlist was Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend in Arizona. Grand Canyon is also awesome obviously. Not sure if you want to go south to those spots though.
Yosemite is on the list for us to check out.
Would love to see what you end up song to your itinerary!

Yeeees!!! That sounds like fun. What a cool album too (wouldn’t think of a honeymoon album but for a road trip? Yes!).

I love this idea! We've talked about a road trip to California from Ohio so many times. (FH's sister lives in California.) I can't offer suggestions for sites to see, but I hope you have a great time. Maybe take some travel games with you. Mad Libs, puzzles?

Too funny! We are in the planning steps of a road trip honeymoon from OH to AZ! See grand canyon, diners from that famous show with the Guy, and some other stuff.

We're doing a road trip honeymoon too! We're flying to Las Vegas and then driving from Vegas to Phoenix and visiting National Parks along the way. At the end of our trip we'll fly back home from Phoenix.

We drove from California (LA area) to New Jersey a couple years ago! Our stops were: Vegas, Zion National Park (Utah), arches national park (also Utah), Denver and Boulder Colorado, Mount Rushmore, Badlands National Park (South Dakota), Mall of America in Minnesota, Oshkosh Wisconsin (only because my uncle lives there), Chicago, Pittsburgh.

My favorite places were definitely the Badlands (the National Park is formations from volcano damage to the rocks, and it’s just the coolest and most unique thing, I’ve never seen anything like it!) and honestly the entire states of Colorado and Utah. Colorado is just one of my favorite places ever in general, and driving through the Rockies was awesome. Driving through Utah too, was probably one of the greatest experiences of my life. And doing it as a road trip is very different than just going somewhere in Utah, because you get to see ALL OF IT and how the surroundings change as you keep driving... the roads were open, speed limit was I think 85, but the road is not completely straight so you don’t get bored driving straight for hours lol, i was honestly enjoying the drive and the views so much that I didn’t even notice I had driven for 3.5 hours! So not sure if any of those things would be on your route, but those are my recommendations.

Some other just general tips I have for things that made our trip fun:
-having games in the car and traditions that we do at every stop. For example, we played the greatest license plate game of ALL TIME. And we got 49 states. All but RHODE ISLAND of all places hahaha. Still annoyed :p we also got out of the car and took a selfie with every “welcome to X state” sign, and made the coolest collage at the end! We also bought a post card at every stop and used it in our scrapbook Smiley smile
    -books on tape are wonderful
-Most important, pull over at every “scenic overlook” you see. There were so many of them in Utah and Colorado especially, and we never regretted taking 5 mins off the drive. It’s a great chance to stretch your legs, AND some of the best views we ended up finding (comparable or sometimes even better than the national parks honestly...) were at these random scenic overlooks by the highway. I’m attaching a pic of just middle of nowhere scenic overlook in Utah so you can see what I’m talking about!

Have an awesome time!! Our road trip ended up being 60 hours in the car in 8 days. We always joke that if you want to test a relationship, drive across the country together 😂 It honestly made us stronger and closer than ever.

I would love to do this. We bought an RV in December 2015 but then ended up getting pregnant In February 2016 but our original plan was just to cross the country and travel. Obviously baby put that on hold then as of the wedding we sold the RV even but I say go for it, once you settle down into Married life and have kids the opportunity it will pass you by until retirement age

I live in Oklahoma but I go to school in PA and my family vacations in CO so I've been ALLLL over the country and always in the car! Honestly sleep in the car if you can when you're not the driver. Not super romantic but then you'll be super energized the rest of the time. If you're not used to long car trips, I suggest getting some practice in. It can be a looooooong several days if you're not used to it. But don't let that scare you!! It's totally worth it. My grandparents did a road trip for their honeymoon back in the 50s!

Also, I highly recommend picking a location and getting photos done by a local photographer.

    Definite places to check out:

    Smoky Mountains, TN

    St. Louis Arch

    Turner Falls, OK

    Wichita Mountains, OK

    Blue Hole, TX

    Petrified Forest, AZ

    Grand Canyon, AZ

    Pike's Peak, CO

    Crested Butte area, CO

    Rocky Mountain National Park, CO

    Fort Collins, CO

    Grand Teton NP, WY

    Couer d'Alene, Idaho

    Yellowstone NP
