Rose Petals - How Soon is Too Soon to lay them?

Lisa, on September 19, 2018 at 5:30 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 4

Hi everyone!

We are getting married very soon, and are doing rose petals on either side of our aisle, as well as scattered on the tables around our centerpieces. Everything is indoors.

We are getting married on a Sunday, however the venue is free on the Saturday, so we're coming in to set up the decor on Saturday; an absolutely amazing opportunity. I'm just a little worried about the rose petals. The ballrooms are reasonably air conditioned, but if we put them out on Saturday they will be sitting out for 24+ hours. It would just make life so much easier if we could put them out then and not have to do it Sunday morning!

Does anyone have any experience in how long rose petals last once you've laid them out? I've tried searching with no luck!

Super appreciate any advice. Thank you!

You’re maitre d or whoever should be able to coordinators set up for whatever you need. I would drop everything off the day before and let them take care of it all the day of

We actually just bought freeze dried rose petals for this reason. You may be ok but I was afraid to risk it.

    Hi Lisa!

What is your venue staff like? And are you getting your petals from your florist?

Depending on how hands-on the venue staff and your florist are, sometimes they might already have a plan for scattering your aisle-lining petals on the day-of. I would start by talking to them, first.

Petals will definitely wilt and crinkle if they are out 24+ hours in advance. Whether it's your coordinator venue staff/a bridesmaid/family member(s)/friend(s), I would definitely advise spreading the petals on the day of your wedding.

At the venues I have worked events at, we always pick & scatter the petals an hour before the event starts, just to be extra careful that they're fresh and stay fresh throughout the occasion. Smiley heart I hope this helps!

Thank you so much - this definitely helps a lot! I was feeling a little shy of imposing any more than I already had on the venue as they are doing a lot for me, but it never hurts to ask, and I'm sure they'd be glad to help. Better to be safe!
