Rose petals - silk petals vs. real petals

Genevieve, on January 28, 2012 at 2:22 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 8

Our budget seems to slowly be getting out of hand. I've never seen the silk petals and am wondering is it that huge of a difference between those and the real petals. I will have them on either side of the aisle and some around the centerpieces (which will be candles) there will be no more than 8 tables (fingers crossed). Our colors are Black, Red and Mercury (which is like a dark gray) and we will be going with red rose petals. Thoughts?

We're using silk because our venue says real rose petals stain the linens and floors.

Petal Garden sent me free samples of their silk petals so you can see the colors and feel the petals which was nice. Maybe that will help you decide? Their petals are nicer than the ones you'd find at Michael's or Hobby Lobby IMO.

Hi Genevieve ~ welcome to WW

Have you talked to the venue yet?

Some of them have rules about petals.

I would use silk. I am thinking about buying white petals from the dollar store and then dying them.

We used freeze-dried petals. They looked nicer to us than the silk ones, but they are not slippery if you step on one and they don't stain linens or floors.

@2d - Freeze dried sounds like a nice compromise.

If you're indoor, I would consider freeze-dried or silk.

If you're outdoor, consider real or freeze-dried.

And like everyone said, check with your venue.

Real petals are no more expensive than decent silk ones. They really are around the same price. If you go with silk ones I suggest you buy them locally so that you can see them ahead of time and not order them unseen as you may not like the cheap ones.
