Roses and Carnations

Bonnie, on July 23, 2009 at 2:53 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 18

So, in order to save money I think I am going to use white roses and purple/white multi-colored carnations. I just want to see what you guys think of how it may look.

Here's a link to what the multi-colored carnations look like. It will be these and white roses

You don't think the carnations will make it look too cheap?

I don't usually like carnations, but with the multicolored ones mixed in with roses, I don't think you'd be able to tell they were carnations unless you were close up.

There may be other flowers in-season in September that would be inexpensive though, so keep your options open!

I like it. I found some all carnation boquets that I fell in love with. When they are all bunched together like that they dont look cheap and mixed with other flowers they just kind of fill in the background.

I would have had the same fear as you (usually I don't like carnations). But after looking at the picture you can't really even tell that they are carnations. I think it looks great, and like CelticChick said, when they're all together I think they look pretty cool.

Carnations are actually a great flower most people over look especially when you are on a tight budget. In big groups like that they give the feel of peonies which is not a cheap flower. I think they will look great!

I do flowers for my brides and carnations are cheap but added with roses are not bad. They really dont look that cheap. Those prices on you li nk you have are way to much money i hope you have a florist that is cheaper. Good luck

I'm getting 150 stems of carnations for $75 and 100 stems of roses for $100. Not too shabby, I think! Thank goodness for Costco, lol.

Bonnie that is cheap we don't have a costco here in Minnesota. I like carnations alittle better because they last longer and they are cheaper. But those are beautiful.

Those are very pretty flowers. They totally don't look like carnations. By themselves they're gorgeous and i think they'll look great with roses.

I think that carnations get a bad rap because they are cheaper and a little less elegant than other flowers. But they are an inexpensive way to fill in your bouquets and are a very hardy flower that won't wilt immediately like some blooms do. Plus they come in a multitude of colors to match any accent color!

I think that the carnations mixed in with the roses is a budget friendly and beautiful idea.

Carnations do get a bad rap. Most people look at them as funeral flowers, and they are right. If used properly they have a great presence and a lovely fragrance.

I'm not much for carnations, but when used with one variety en masse ( like your pics) they can be quite lovely. And they are very long lasting, which is a very good thing considering the heat we have in Seattle this week!

Hi Bonnie, I am also thinking about doing centerpieces of carnations, in really tight round, red balls. The pictures that I have seen on the Knot and Martha Stewart look very elegant and not cheap at all. Every article I have read though regarding carnations definitely suggests keeping the arrangments all one color, full and tight. Good luck and congrats!!!

Hi Yes I am thining of using carnations too but really undecided about them but when I see them in the photos it really makes you think because they don't look at all like what I had in my head when thinking carnations but I'm with Novbride keep them round, and in one solid color with a big bunch of them together and you'll be surprised.
