Royal Caribbean Wedding: To Do or Not To Do

Amber, on April 4, 2017 at 1:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I've been planning to get married onboard a cruise and have enjoyed Royal Caribbean's cruise line for years so I thought it would be a no-brainer perfect idea. Reading reviews about the wedding package planning process is giving me terrible anxiety that this is a nightmare in the making. Has anyone recently had a wedding with Royal Caribbean? How was it? Highs and Lows please! All advice appreciated! I believe they have replaced their coordinating company so I hope that means service has improved. I'm not into planning all the details but being an active participant for a successfully communicated celebration is expected but from what I've read, even the basic idea of customer service is terrible.

This may be an UO, but personally I would not want to attend a wedding aboard a cruise ship... I'd be afraid of coming down with something from the food, but that's just me!

I love cruising, but I wouldn't want to get married on one. Think of it this way, all of those people are then on your honeymoon, NO THANKS! I would think about doing a wedding and just doing your honeymoon cruise.

Check out cruisecritic.com I was going to do a cruise wedding when I first started planning and that site was awesome. From what I learned I was leaning toward carnival because I read bad reviews about Royal, and it was a little cheaper for what was included. Ultimately we chose a conventional land wedding because because of the restrictions for how many non-sailors you could have at an embarkation day wedding.

@roman why would the food make you sick?

I'm having a cruise wedding with carnival and it hasn't been the best experience, so I actually wouldn't recommend them. Granted I haven't had my wedding yet so I'm hoping all will be great the day of.

As for guests, we did have guests who don't like boats. But you're never going to please everyone.

Royal carribean has a better reputation then carnival and we have gotten a few, why didn't you book a wedding with a different cruiseline (and specifically why didn't you pick royal carribean). Ultimately royal carribean didn't have any availability for where and when we needed.

If I remember correctly royal carribean is pricey but I honestly don't recall the details and carnivals prices went up so they could be equal now. So I can't comment on the wedding piece and experience but as a cruise line, royal carribean does have a good reputation

We've seen some stories on here about bad experiences with cruise weddings. I would definitely recommend going a lot of research.

My best friend had her wedding on a Carnival cruise ship. WE HAD A BLAST!! They had about 25 guests. The ceremony was sweet and the person helping her kept everything on schedule. The reception was the best part. We had one of their nightclubs to ourselves, the food was delicious, and they kept the drinks flowing. After the reception we all, including bride and groom, went down the big waterside, dresses and all. So much fun!!!

Thank you for the feedback! As for the wedding, our close friends and family are all excited about the idea, or at least tolerating it for us, and some just won't be attending. It is a short inexpensive cruise, 3 nights to the bahamas, we all live in south florida, and this is mainly for an elongated reception since i think traditional weddings are over too quickly for all the time and money spent planning. Honeymoon will be separate. I have also posted on cruise critic for feedback. Im worried because of the past reviews over the last few years about RC weddings but then again sometimes you only read the bad comments online so i am curious to see about any positive experiences, specifically recently since they have changed the wedding management company. I would like to move forward and i know there will be bumps, no wedding is perfect, but I don't want it to be a disaster either. I'm thinking that as long as I can effectively communicate with the director on the actual cruise I will be okay. We plan on getting married on the day before the ship returns so I will have a day and a half on board before to hammer out any issues which may be the key, but I'm speculating and looking for advice and tips.
