rsvp cards

Hannah, on March 8, 2023 at 12:25 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
Are RSVP cards necessary? My fiancé and I are on a budget and we’re trying to find ways to cut costs. I don’t want to stray too far from tradition but it seems like such a waste of paper and money. Thoughts?

You could do online RSVP! That would save money on RSVP cards, envelopes, and stamps.

Agree with Lisa! We did online RSVP on The Knot. On the invitations we just told our guests to RSVP on our website and provided the link.

We have online RSVPs and then I'm making a point to contact anyone who isn't technology savvy to get their RSVP verbally.

Etiquette has never required RSVP cards and still doesn't. In fact they were seen as a negative traditionally, because guests were supposed to know how to Rsvp and be courteous enough to reply to an invitation without the steps being spoon fed to them. In reality, it's practical to give your guests some way to reply that doesn't involve them getting out stationery, pen, and stamp and finding a mailbox. Unfortunately, you'd probably be waiting a long time for that these days. Online RSVPs are fine as long as your invitations and your wedding aren't formal.

I used a QR code maker and put it on the invite that takes them to our website but also for flip phone friendly family we just put the link and password by the QR code Smiley smile

We did our website on here and did online rsvp. We sent an info card with the website name and password to log in. We only ordered a handful of actual rsvp cards for our older guests and they still used our website lol

    Hi,

You can simply use your weddingwire free website to have guests RSVP on there.

    Or

We created mini RSVP cards a bit smaller than a post card 5” x 3.5” no envelope. On one side RSVP area other side return address ( we used custom sticky address labels) and without envelope only a post card stamp is required!

Weddingwire has them and also zazzle

Hope this helps have fun celebrating!

These we created on weddingwire RSVP cards postcard size less expense. Should not have to sacrifice beauty for $$$

Guest will more likely respond faster due to the easy of mailing.

We just added to our invitations to RSVP on our WeddingWire website and or call us to RSVP and made sure to put the date to RSVP by. So far everyone has been doing that.

Online RSVP would be the way to go then! I ended up doing RSVPs along with invites and Save The Dates through Canva and it came out to 84 dollars for 100 of each with envelopes. If you are looking for another option.

Yes they are very necessary. It doesn’t matter if you are having a cake and coffee reception or a full dinner. The caterer and baker both need an accurate headcount to make sure you have enough food to go around to everyone without running out. Venues usually don’t need a headcount but they do have capacity limits that are enforced by the local fire department.

Cut costs elsewhere but do not skimp on reply cards. Cut costs by elimination unnecessary items elsewhere such as champagne toast that many may not drink, a reception dress, proposal gifts that are a recent Instagram trend, welcome parties, late night snacks, destination bachelorette parties, welcome bags, covering guest expenses that are not your responsibility, dessert bars in addition to basic cake, favors, etc.

I think they are a waste of money and paper. So we are using the RSVP on our WW site. It's much easier that way IMHO. Good Luck

I agree with you that getting an accurate headcount is necessary, but that doesn't always have to be in the form of a paper RSVP card. Digital replies are also valid. They save money on envelopes, cards, and postage, and they return an immediate response instead of potentially getting lost in the mail. If looking to cut costs, switching to digital RSVP would be a great way to save some money while still getting an accurate headcount.
