Hello everyone, are you guys sending out RSVPs with your invitations? I'm being told its pointless that no one will send them back and just show up, but I need them to have more of an idea on how much food and tables we need. What do you guys think I should do?

I sent out RSVP cards with my invitations, and also had the option to RSVP online. We ended up postponing shortly after sending out our invitations, so we didn't get all of them back, but we definitely had quite a few people mail back their RSVP cards. I think it's common that, no matter how you ask guests to RSVP, many will wait until the last minute or after the deadline or not RSVP at all. You'll likely have to reach out to a few people after the deadline to get their reply, but otherwise, most people do return the RSVP cards.

I don't know who would say that, but YES absolutely sent RSVPs out with our invites. We did also allow them to RSVP electronically if they wanted and NO ONE except 1 person did that and that was only because they were late in sending in their RSVP.

It's important that you send the RSVP cards with your invites. You may not get all of them back but you will get some. We also have the option to RSVP on our website but not everyone, especially the elders, are tech savvy. It's better to be prepared and have them and not need them than to not have them and need them.

Very true, thank you! My sister said you know Mexicans don't RSVP to anything we just show up. Most of our guests are Mexican so it does have me stressing. But I am definitely sending them with the invites.

Lol that's funny. For a party sure no problem but if I'm paying per person, I'd definitely need to know how much money I'd be spending. That's not something I'd wanna be side blinded by cause people just showed up without saying anything.

Sounds like you might have to call some people closer to the deadline if they don't believe in the whole RSVP thing. I'm sure no matter what happens, it'll all work out!

You need to have your guests RSVP. I have not heard of guests not RSVP'ing and just showing up. That is ridiculous! We mailed physical invitations, but had our guests RSVP online. This made it easy for guests to just hop on our website and RSVP and it worked out very well.

It is not true that no one sends them back. Youger people, teens tgrough early 30's are worse. But most depends on the social skills of your prospective guests.
We only had 3 outstanding a week before they were due, 2% of the number of invitations, and both had called to say why baby overdue, relative needing surgery, no date yet.
My mom did RSVP tallying for 6 of us brothers and sisters who married in 2 years. 4 weddings had 100% return. And 2 had 70-80% returned, but every one not returned was a friend, or sibling, or cousin of the groom. Their older family new it was necessary and were prompt. The younger guys, many frat brothers, figured if it rained and a game they had tickets for rained out, they would come. Or they had to see if they could find a place to stay because they always drink a lot. 2 Weeks away, have you looked, called. No, I guess ought to. Complete garbage. ... Most people whose weddings I have been involved with get 80-90%, if the invitations were sent to arrive at 8-10 weeks out, and due 2-3 weeks out. That is certainly worth doing. If brides asked for 4 weeks or more before the wedding as return day, very few except older relatives replied. I have helped call on those for numerous brides. work does not approve till 28 days out, Kids sports calendars come out 3-4 weeks early are the biggest ting. And they still don't know til you call at 3-3.5 weeks. Online response rates are much, much lower than cards being mailed in. If your friends and family often entertain 30 plus people, of go to lots of parties, shows, benefits, they are usually the most prompt, by mail. Sending invitations way early, 3-8 months, pretty much guarantees you have to call every person. We jad respond by card, or call ( sometimes set on answering machine, and over a third called weeks ahead.

Thank you this helps a lot. I personally haven't been involved in a wedding so I'm clueless on how it all works, but thank you for the information.

Sending an rsvp card and tracking down any who don't come in are required so you can get an accurate headcount for your caterer and venue. The vendors will require them of you. It saves you money so you don't end up with not enough food or too much.

We aren’t having our guests mail us anything back. Instead the RSVPs will happen via our website. So all of that information will be in the invitation. I agree that the RSVP process is often discussed on here as being an issue. But, we are only having around 60 guests who we are very close with. So contacting any who haven’t replied will be easy.
