Hello everyone, are you guys sending out RSVPs with your invitations? I'm being told its pointless that no one will send them back and just show up, but I need them to have more of an idea on how much food and tables we need. What do you guys think I should do?

So I didn't send out invitations, I sent out Save the Dates with our wedding website link and included a blurb that says please RSVP by X date. I did have intentions on sending out invitations but I had to change my venue after I printed them and did not want to go through reprinting and fixing them again. Most of my guest were starting to RSVP when I sent the Save the Date so it worked out for me. Those who didn't RSVP we sent them a text and asked them to RSVP through our website.

My wedding guest list was under 70 people.

We aren’t including RSVP cards. We’re having everyone RSVP online. There has to be some way for people to tell you if they are coming or not, whether it’s through a card or electronic.

I don't know who is telling you things, but it's certainly not anyone who has planned a wedding in the last 50 years.

This is completely wrong. This isn't a birthday party or reunion, where you can "wing it" in terms of the amount of food, and number of guests. You have to have an accurate head count. At my venue, we get charged for every person we say is coming. So, if we say 80, and only 60 show up, we have to pay for 80. Or the reverse, if we say 60 are coming, and 80 show up, we will get charged a huge penalty, and there may not be enough food! Neither scenario is good.

Please include RSVPs with your invitations. Either an online RSVP (for the more tech savvy) or a response card (with postage on it) that people can send back. Make sure you give your guests a deadline to RSVP, usually 1-2 weeks before you have to give your caterer/venue your final head count. Once that deadline passes, you'll need to reach out to anyone who hasn't responded yet, and get a firm yes or no.

Thank you! Yes I definitely will send them. I need to know for the catering and for how many tables I need out and how big of a cake to order and everything.

I am doing text message rsvps with Replied App
The verbiage I’m using on that page is “Save your carrier pigeons, text xxx-xxx-xxxx to RSVP” or something of that nature

An invite without an RSVP is... not an invite.

While we did not do paper RSVPs, we directed people to our website, where the RSVP could be returned.

If you don't want to do paper ones, try that method.

(You'll still be bugging people to RSVP.)

Yes definitely send out RSVPs physical and online. We got more people to RSVP in mail ins than online actually. Also, you probably already thought of this but if you're doing a sit down dinner and need people's dinner orders don't forget to include that on the mail ins. We set ours for online but the RSVPs we got didn't include dinner lol so we had to reach out to those who RSVPd again and ask. Not a huge deal but save yourself the time!

I sent out a link to the website and fb pages for the RSVPs. When my Uncle got married, he sent out paper RSVPs and got most back, but whatever you chose to do, you'll most likely have to call a couple of guest to confirm their attendance if you want a head count.

Another thing you can do if your guest are active on social media, is create a fb group, and link your guests. That way you can post updates, and the event will be more on the forefront of their minds.
