Hey y’all I sent out our invitations at the beginning of this month ans I have the cut off date at April 1st. Our wedding is May 14th. The reason I did this is so we have enough time to finish everything up with the final headcount for the wedding. I currently have like 45 people RSVPed to the wedding. Is anyone else having this problem? What should I do? Did I send everything out too early? How do I fix this? Would it be rude to just take down the RSVP link on April 1st no matter what?

I think it's typical for many people to procrastinate on RSVPing until the last minute. People often either forget, or are waiting because they don't know their schedule, etc. On April 2, I would reach out to anyone you haven't heard from to check whether they plan to attend or not. Calling them would be easiest to get an immediate answer, but you could also text them to say something along the lines of, "Hello! We haven't received your RSVP yet for our wedding, so I just wanted to reach out to remind you, since we have to give our final count to our venue/caterer soon. If you get a chance, can you please RSVP by [new date]?" If you don't hear from them by the new date (which I would set the new date for like 3-5 days after the original RSVP date), let them know that since you haven't heard from them, you will unfortunately have to count them as a no.

When did you send out invitations? Unfortunately, you will always have guests that forget or don't prioritize replying. The day after your RSVP due date, you should reach out to anyone who has not responded yet to confirm their attendance. Also, it is not uncommon to get a lot of responses on or right before the due date as people finalize plans.

That sounds totally reasonable then. Unfortunately, you'll probably just have a group of people that you need to follow-up with personally. The RSVP process is the worst!! Lol

Especially if you are having guests RSVP online (this is what sounds like from your posts about taking the link down), people are going to wait until April 1st to do it. People typically fall into 2 categories: those who do things right away and those who procrastinate. As PP said, reach out starting April 2nd to catch any stragglers, but I would imagine the bulk of your guest list will complete the RSVP link on April 1st.

How many more invites are you waiting to hear back on? My wedding is April 29th and I sent out invites around the beginning of February with the RSVP date of March 31st. I sent out about 48 invitations and I’m still waiting to hear back from 9 of those couples. I’ve noticed I’ve started getting a good handful again this past week like I did in the beginning, so people waiting until the last minute is definitely happening. Also agree with above, plan to reach out to people you haven’t heard from after the deadline passes.

Our guest list is 214. I know that sounds crazy but we both have really big families and it’s only family invited.

Yikes, that’s a ton of people to still be waiting on. Is there anyway you can put a soft reminder out to your guest list like on social media or pass it along through family members to tell others?

Yes I have like a wedding blog type thing to keep everyone updated and also I can have family pass it around. My biggest fear is planning for 50 people and then 100 extra people show up.

Don't worry yet! A lot of people don't have great manners about these things, but many will send their RSVP at the last minute. My wedding is the same weekend as yours and we have half responded. The postal service is such a mess that some haven't even gotten their invites yet 😭 Hang in there, and if anyone still hasn't responded after your deadline, call them and ask directly. But you did put a rather early deadline so give it some time.

We also have a strict deadline, I sent out our invitations about 2-3 weeks ago and our wedding is June 4. My cut off for RSVP replies is May 7. I would honestly shut the RSVP down at your deadline that is listed. We told everyone if they didn’t reply within our timeframe, but still wanted to come, to bring a chair and a sandwich bc neither would be available for them!
Wedding planning is a lot of work. And a lot of things you’re paying for rely on knowing your guest count!

Yes! That is my worry because how expensive it is and I need an official count. We are thinking of doing that.

Thank you 😊 I would have never guessed that the RSVP was the most stressful.

Our RSVPs are due this weekend, and we still have about 70 guests that need to respond 🤦‍♀️ We invited a little over 200 guests (included plus ones and children). Will definitely have to make some calls next week.

Agree with PPs. Half will respond right away and the other half will do it last minute. I have a similar time frame to yours. We sent them out at the end of February, RSVPs are due April 9th, and the wedding is May 21st. It’s driving me bonkers that there’s still 73 people who haven’t responded and there’s only about 2 weeks until the deadline. We even made the RSVP process online - they only have to click a few buttons as opposed to writing on a card, sealing it, and putting it in the mail! But I am learning to have patience as I’ve been reading this happens to pretty much EVERY couple 😂

I would start asking them if they received the invitation and if they can get back to you with a response either by sending back the response card or texting you.

our wedding is 4/15/22 and we mailed out our invitations 2/10/22 and our RSVP deadline was yesterday. we got about 90% of responses back in the mail. we have a few stragglers who haven't responded yet and we're gonna ask those last few this weekend.

people get busy or distracted with life and so it wouldn't hurt to reach out just to remind folks.
