RSVPing YES then changing their minds

spring, on April 3, 2014 at 2:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

So I have had four guest RSVP yes then change their mind. One called me to say that they and their plus one wont come. The other sent in an RSVP but then said that they arent 100% certain that they will make it. I find it so weird. Has this happened to anyone else. I am happy they told me before I paid for them but now I wandering what changed their mind

Well, they suck, and you don't want them at your wedding anyway.

I am glad I know before hand but I find it so weird to say yes then change your mind instead of just saying NO in the first place

I had two. One was a relative who decided not to attend because her husband was in poor health.

Another was one of DH's friends, who RSVP'ed yes, then emailed to say she might or might not attend, and wouldn't know until a few days beforehand, but even then she couldn't be quite sure. It was like a cat standing halfway in and halfway out a door. I told her I'd mark her down as a no, at which point she magically cleared her calendar and said she could make it after all.

It happens. Things come up. And the reverse is true too. Don't take it personally. I'd rather have them tell me now than me find out the day of!

I hope it doesn't happen to me, but as long as it happens before the headcount has been given then that's money saved, in my book. :-) Granted, I don't wish that on anyone at all.

Things come up for people. It's nice they let you know. My mom has been invited to two weddings that she RSVPed yes for her and my stepdad then he got called out of town for work. She called the couple immediately, but there was nothing else she could do.

It happened with us once. Good friends were getting married, we RSVPd yes, FH put the time in off work, and that was that. A week before the wedding - his boss says "sorry, we fired three

people, I need you to work that night."

It happened with my parents once. They RSVPd yes to a family friends wedding. The day of though my mom ended up really sick. Phoned the parents of the groom (whom they are friends with) to let them know. Sent a really nice cheque. Never got a Thank You note.

It happened to me this past winter. One of my good friends was getting married, rsvp'd yes for fh and I. We live 6 hours away in good weather. Throw a snowstorm in, even to leave the Friday night wasn't a good idea. I called my friend in tears but didn't want to chance the drive.
