Rsvps! The Good, the Bad, and the Unacceptable!

OnCloudRawls, on April 22, 2019 at 7:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 83
Your invitations have been designed, printed and have been mailed off to each of your guests! Now, you have to wait for the RSVPs to come back! Ugh...the waiting game!

I'm sure that each of us Spring/Summer brides are probably waiting around anxiously to receive RSVPs from each of our guests, right?!?!

What are some of your trick(s) that have worked for you that made guests return their RSVPs?

What grinds your gears when it comes to waiting for RSVPs?

I know for me, some guests have said, "I will try to make it to the wedding."

Ugh I agree! I only have 5 rsvps left to be returned and they are due back on Saturday. I was seeing a lot of family on Easter and suggested they bring it so it did not get lost in the mail. One groomsman said he will return his to me on Saturday and no earlier which annoys me.

Reached out to families after the deadline, said they had to really look at their finances and get back to me. So I gave them until the end of that week. Still hadn't heard back so i counted them as Nos.
They messaged me yesterday saying they were coming! I'm super excited about it but I was a teeny annoyed because I had JUST ordered our place cards like 3 days before that. It all worked out though bc I think i forgot the other after deadline Yes in that batch!

Just got this one today: "Oh yeah I'll definitely see you at the wedding, but I'm not sure about (daughter). I put her as a yes on the RSVP because she'll probably be there."

Funny timing for this post too...(commented before I got this!)
I just got an invite for a friends wedding 2 weeks after mine... there's no place to RSVP!!!! it literally only says

"their names invite you to celebrate their joy as they celebrate their wedding
May 25, 2019 at XYZ place
Ceremony at 530n reception to follow."

I didn't spend the money on printing invitation but what i did do is created my invitation using the website and i emailed it and text it. I've provided detail instructions for rsvp and im actually getting a great response and my wedding isn't until December 35 rsvp out of 100. I will send out another reminder in June and September and make final calls in November.

I’ve gotten the “We’ll try to make it” too. And my thought was ok, and when will you know and what do you want to eat. I’d say my biggest struggle is getting people to realize I need to know what their menu choice is. Not just that they’re coming. I guess this is just part of it lol

I had someone rsvp yes for her husband when she has no idea if he’ll be able to make it or not. I told her to let me know as soon as she actually knew so if he couldn’t come I didn’t have to pay for him not being there. I laid it all out because I wanted her to know that it’s important to actually have an accurate count of who will be there and who won’t be able to come so we’re not paying more than needed because we are paying for it ourselves. Which seems to be a foreign concept at the church we go to.

I literally had a family of 4 tell me after I reached out that "Oh we're coming but we have til the 27th to RSVP, so we'll wait til then". I almost screamed, but we'll see what happens. I'm at the point where I've reminded people so much that I just won't accept anything after Saturday.

I'm actually putting this on my RSVP cards:

"Please fill- out and drop this card in the mail so we can plan the day."

I'm hoping that will make people realize that their reply makes a difference in our planning.

That’s what gets me! Do people not understand that we need to know ASAP in order to give a rough estimate? Lol. The venue manager called me yesterday and asked me what my headcount was looking like right now and what the final number may be. My brain went into pause mode😨 because I really don’t know how many people are really coming.

Yep! That right there! I just don’t understand why some people do that! Like make the commitment to be there and follow through. Be transparent to engaged couple, if something comes up if you can’t make it. I don’t think it’s that difficult🤷🏾‍♀️

    They dont have a website.
I think its more of a casual bbq kind of wedding from what I've heard. They're probably making enough food for everybody who is invited.

Ugh.... This.... I literally had someone respond yes they and their bf were coming and then yesterday (weddings is in 2 weeks) as I'm putting placecards in frames, that he's not coming. He's going to go to work that day and make some extra money. "thanks, I wish I had extra money seeing as I already paid for your bf" also there no children at my wedding outside of the bridal party(flower girl, ring bearer etc) this girl literally took it upon herself to say "oh, I know there's no children but I'm bringing my daughter" cool.... Thanks for telling me you're inviting someone to my wedding lol sorry.... It felt really good to get that out. I don't understand how people could just flat out not respond. I even put postage on my rsvps and I still had people who didn't send them back. So frustrating. I live in upstate NY and our wedding is almost $100 a person. We're on a tight budget so people not rsvping or canceling after they rsvp is super frustrating.

This is the worst. I hate when my wedding coordinator asks me something and my brain just completely decides to blank out. It's soo awkward!!!!! 😂😂

RSVPs are due Thursday and we are still waiting for 25 responses. Absolutely boils my blood! It's so rude in my opinion! I even out stamps and our address on the return envelopes. I hope a ton come in this week because I'm not reaching out to that many people lol

That’s a good idea! Sending out reminders periodically! I just didn’t want to be the person that could potentially annoy a person because I’m sending our reminders “too often” in the guests’ opinion 😅
