Rude venue vendors

Cindy, on March 30, 2022 at 7:50 AM Posted in Planning 1 8
This is my second marriage, and I remember wedding planning being stressful last time but not this stressful. Particularly I’ve had huge struggles finding a venue and their staff are some of the rudest I’ve experienced. One venue strung us along for five weeks before telling us that they probably never actually had our date available due to an annual fundraiser they’d known about the whole time, then refused to call me back to confirm whether or not that was indeed true. Another vendor had us rearrange our work schedules to meet her, inconveniencing our clients and costing us income, then at the last minute when it was too late to fix our schedules told us she had a wedding at that time anyway and could we come even earlier (this blowing off more clients and losing more income). A minister of a church I’ve been thinking of going to has been really hard to get a hold of to get scheduled with. He canceled at the last minute then when we rescheduled and drove all at the way out there he was no call no show. And several other vendors just didn’t contact us when they said they would. We’re so tired and stressed and behind on our timeline that we are thinking of postponing our wedding. Has anyone else had problems like this? FH says it’s because we’re in Florida. He said he still remembers his first job Interview in Florida when the Interviewer told him “if you just show up and do what you’re supposed to do you’ve got most of your competition beat here in Florida.” Ugh.

    Hey Cindy,

YES! I've had a similar experience and I honestly just cut contact with those vendors. I also look on the bright side, their unprofessional behavior saves me the trouble of considering them lol! You've got this! Just do a little more research to find vendors that are better with time management & communications.

That's so crazy. What are the reviews like for these rude vendors? I would just suggest to research alot of the venues in your area for previous experiences. Look at all the sites - WW, the knot, Google maps, Facebook, Yelp... Anywhere that has reviews! You can also consider writing a review of your experiences. We gotta help each other out!

Thank you Candace that’s good advice. I have looked at reviews but not dug deeply into them. It seems like reviews for every vendor are fabulous and written only by people who have hired the vendor and are happy with them. I’m not sure if they’re being filtered or if mostly only happy brides write wedding industry reviews? I did write a review for one of them but haven’t gotten to the others; I also have a bad vet review I need to write to save pets from that vet and that’s my first priority.

I would definitely check reviews, and make sure they are current. I've been burned by seeing good reviews and then realizing the reviews were all at least 3 years old. In our search for a venue, we had one venue that, because it was raining, closed down and the event coordinator didn't bother to call us and let us know (She claimed she didn't have our number at home but, sorry I don't know a single person who can't access their email from home and my number was all over those emails, not to mention an email would have worked!). My fiancé and I drove to the other side of Los Angeles, in the rain, on a day we both took specifically off to go see this venue (we were positive it was going to be the one) only to be so put off by the lack of professionalism in not contacting us! She called me the next day and her excuse was that she assumed that since it was raining, we just wouldn't show up. I told her "No. We keep all of our appointments." and then when she asked when we wanted to reschedule I told her we didn't, that I didn't trust the venue if, God forbid, it rains on our wedding day.

If a venue or a vendor gives you bad (or unprofessional) vibes, definitely keep looking. I know there is the right place for you out there. I went through 10 venue visits (and about 35 other over email), at least 10 photographers, and 7 DJs before finding my team. It'll work out the way its suppose to.

I got married in FL and the only vendor that was a little tough for me to get ahold of was our florist. Everyone else was super professional and great to work with. I think you've just hit a bad string of luck. Are you also getting married in a small town where the options for vendors are limited? I know that can make vendors a little complacent.

Wow Oriana, sorry you went through all that. I’m surprised you had to go through so many vendors but I’m glad you finally found your team. Those numbers give me a better idea of what to expect- I guess I just lucked out with my first wedding with not having to meet too many vendors before they clicked. Thanks for your advice and support.

Thanks Kylie. I live in fort myers which is a moderately sized town. Maybe the vendors get so much wedding business (including destination weddings) that they are complacent for that reason?
