Runners vs Overlays - Sweetheart table

vicky, on February 17, 2014 at 12:27 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

So I was able to find runners that I like for a decent price for my tables because the venue is a restaurant with nice tables and doesn't do tablecloths. I have 9 tables total so it works out because I have to buy the runners in sets of 3. My sweetheart table is one of those 9, but it is a 5.5 x 3 ft oval table and we'll be sitting on one of the red velvet curved booths that we are also using for a lounge area at the other end of the room.

My question is, do I spend the extra money (around $60) for an overlay for the sweetheart table so it stands out, or do I stick with just the runner like all the other tables?

The upside is that I am purchasing, not renting so I could probably sell them later but I'm wondering if I am just spending money needlessly "in the name of wedding".

What would you do?

I had the same question. I decided to go with a overlay that was the color of my bridesmaid dresses and the rest of the tables just the shiny white. My venue does like a fancy tuck at the top of the sweetheart table to make the color stand out, but not over bearing. If you go with the over lay on just the one table, that should look great, and save you money too!

I think the overlay would look nice and make the table stand out. But, if you plan on adding other things to the sweetheart table you might not miss the overlay (or the added expense).

Future Mrs. --I'm just going to have a small hydrangea arrangement so I was worried I might need more. You're right about not overpowering it though. I think the overlay might help me cut out additional decor items I would have otherwise used for the table.

Fabiloa - just saw your back & married post, love it! Your runner does pop really nicely. The only difference is my tables don't have any tablecloth at all so I don't think I'm going to have the same visual effect you had. Love yours though!

Ok yeah then in that case I would probably go without? why wouldn't they allow you a table cloth? But if they are nice tables then I would prabably go without

    Thank you Smiley smile

I can't find your post anymore so I wanted to say congrats to you here.

The venue allows tablecloths but they do not have tablecloths so I would have to rent or purchase them elsewhere. I figured to save I would just to runners for all of the tables instead of full tablecloths. I just ordered them and a tablecloth for the sweetheart table.
