Rustic no Burlap

Gabrielle, on January 25, 2018 at 11:33 AM Posted in Style and Décor 2 20
Hey guys, I recently started planning my wedding for October, 2019 and need opinions on a rustic theme. Can you do rustic without burlap and mason jars or should I change my ‘theme’? I’m also going to be making all centerpieces myself so any ideas/ advice is greatly appreciated!!!

I did rustic with no burlap or mason jars. We got married on a farm in a barn, so naturally rustic. My centerpiece vases were made to look like tree bark, our cake looked like a tree, same with our card box and the giant S we did as a guest book.

Yes, you can and it will look so much better! Have you checked Pinterest yet? A fall wedding would be lovely with a lot of natural elements. Seeds, pods, pumpkins, wheat, grapevine. Lots of candles. It will be beautiful.

When you chose a rustic theme, you must have had something in mind. What did/does rustic mean to you?

I had more of a barn vision with hanging lights and lots of candles. Everything on Pinterest is burlap and mason jars which are nice but I wanted to do something different. I’m just kind of lost for center piece ideas without a mason jar and burlap table runner.

I'm doing a rustic elegance. I've attached an example of my centerpieces. It's not exact but different from what I have seen at most rustic weddings. Hope out helps give you some ideas 🙂

Hi Gabrielle! I'd love to see some of the inspiration pictures that turned you on to rustic as well!

I'd go for lots of natural elements, wood decor, and I love the look of incorporating antlers! Here are some inspiration pics I found on WeddingWire's Rustic Wedding Ideas pinterest board :

You can definitely do rustic without burlap and mason jars! Those are way overdone anyways. I think using a lot of natural elements and different textures would be really pretty: using leaves for place cards, fall flowers, dried flowers and fruit, flannel, plaid, etc.

I am rustic no burlap! My wedding is at an old stagecoach stop with the reception inside a farm that has been updated. We have lots of wood, sunflowers, and lace. We call it “vintage country” we have no burlap and no mason jars in sight.

Also getting married in a barn with no burlap or mason jars. Although I've had so many people offer me their left over jars from their wedding. We are using lanterns and wooden boxes. The boxes will have potted herbs in them. Plus lots of candles. I don't have any photos of the boxes with herbs but here's a couple of my lanterns I was playing with and a picture of the inside in the barn.

You totally can!!! I would describe it as a rustic bohemian style so more natural wood and florals rather than the quintessential “rustic” style. You can call it whatever you wanna call it and make it whatever you wanna make it because it’s your day. 😘

That’s so helpful! Whenever you search rustic on Pinterest it’s all burlap and mason jars. Searching the bohemian style is more of what I’m looking for. Thanks so much!!!

Love This! Where did you find your lanterns? I found some at a local store in myrtle Beach but they are super expensive.

Jury is still out on mason jars, but I'm doing "rustic vintage" because I love antiquing, and my goal is for my wedding to be as eco friendly as possible

I've been watch those facebook shop and swap sites but it's still much to pricy. I think I've got about 10. I found a decor rental that I'll rent more lanterns (about 60) as well as some other pieces for the isle and centerpieces.

I also really want to avoid the burlap and mason jars even with my rustic barn wedding. You can definitely do a "classy rustic!" I really like the tree bark that is in style now. The place we are getting married in has a ton of fairy lights set up for weddings, and is a good combination of beautiful and rustic. I'm hoping to do something like this for the ceremony (it'll be in a little wedding chapel next to the barn) but with fake candles, and adding some other things as mine is a Christmas wedding. You could do something with candles and bark as your centerpieces!

I get where youre coming from, burlap is not pretty and I cant remember the last wedding I attended that didnt have mason jars somewhere. Maybe search for a "woodland" theme. That may be more up your alley.

You can definitely do rustic without burlap or mason jars! We are getting married September 2019 in a barn but we are not using any burlap. I am only choosing to use mason jars because I personally like them, but these will only be used for favors and drinks. We will be using greenery garland for centerpieces with candles and flowers.
