Sad and want to give up

Bird, on March 14, 2021 at 9:47 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hey guys, I originally had a venue for our 2020 wedding. Then we decided to postpone it to 2021. We then recently decided to cancel that venue and try to instead have a relaxed bbq in my fiancé’s parents backyard. They offered it up a few times and we officially asked them today. They said no!

They said no for numerous reasons, and they are all understandable reasons. I’m just upset. We’re back to square one and no solid ideas.
We wanted to try to avoid a venue because the uncertainty of restrictions is very hard to plan for and plan ahead. I feel like I just want to give up and not have anything.

I'm sorry you feel this way! That's all very stressful. If you don't need an event, you don't need a huge event! You can elope, or do a courthouse thing. If you want an event, maybe you can take a little break from planning, especially if you're worried about restrictions. Get busy with other things, plan a trip or learn a hobby... just try to take a break!

I totally get just wanting to give up. How many people were you hoping for? And what state are you in/what is the current limit for weddings? I'm sure we can help you figure something out

Get a venue through the local parks department. Look them up online and they will have a list of available venue rentals.

    Thanks so much guys.

I’m in NJ and we wanted to have 50-70 guests. Immediate family, best friends and close cousins. Super laid back. Bbq. No assigned seats. Yard games. Etc.
3 of our absolute closest friends plus their husbands, are pregnant and so they will not be getting the vaccine and so we wanted to have our wedding outside so they could feel comfortable. If it wasn’t outside they would not come. And not having them there would be devastating.

It looks like you can have pretty large outdoor events in NJ. Are there other restrictions you are concerned about?

We hosted a friend's wedding in our backyard, maybe a friend is an option if you offer to pay. Or an airbnb

Interesting! Dance floors aren’t allowed I think. Also restrictions could open or they could get tighter. No one can predict the future right, haha. So that’s a reason why we wanted to just do something in a backyard, casually.

We considered getting a permit with a park but they also have Covid restrictions. We can also check if any other friends might be able to offer their backyard.
To be clear, I’m not against restrictions, We just want to avoid the inability to plan because of unknowns.

I totally get that. What are the must-haves for your event? Guest list size, dance floor, outdoors?

I’m so sorry. I totally understand the feeling of being defeated. If you have vendors I would ask how their clients are making it happen. Perhaps call tent companies in your area to see what parks and locations their clients are using. Another thought is if you can host your wedding in Pennsylvania just over the border, as our restrictions may allow your number outdoors. Good luck girlie ❤️

Hey! I would def see if you can find a park near you for the venue! We considered using a park originally and I believe you can rent out spacing for things like weddings at most. Covid has def put a wrench in planning and finding venues to accommodate all your needs but I’m confident you can find somewhere! Don’t give up hope

I'm so sorry that this happened! Like Th said above, I would research some parks! My mom is getting married in 2022 in a park and the costs are a lot less than a venue, you can have it really laid back and bring in your own catering if that's what you want to do. And it would be outside! I don't know about NJ, but we have a bunch of parks around here in CT that accommodate weddings and have covered pavilions in case it rains. So maybe start researching those and see if there is one you like?
