Saint Lucia -3 walls or 4?

Annie, on March 16, 2021 at 3:40 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 7
I was looking at a honeymoon in Saint Lucia and I saw that they have resorts where the rooms have 3 walls and the room opens to the view with a missing 4th wall, and they also have resorts with normal 4-wall rooms. I'm split on what to do. Has anyone been before to either kind of resort? Even better if you've been to Saint Lucia. Any advice?

As in 1 of the walls is a glass door that opens out or it's just open air? If it's just open air, I would be hesitant to stay in a room like that for privacy concerns, as well air conditioning and protection from the elements (what if it rains?). If it's a whole wall of a glass door, that may be really nice.

Its open air, but the reviews claim that nobody can see in because it faces the sea and is situated on a cliff. Who knows though?

Definitely also concerned about the elements

Yeah, I feel like in theory that sounds nice. But in practicality you have no real climate control when trying to sleep, more bugs can get in, etc.

The open air resort is stunning! I wouldn't worry about privacy. From the photos, it's clear that the rooms are not accessible from the cliff side. I would write to the hotel and ask about what happens when the weather turns. They must have some water damage prevention. Also ask what the temperature is like at different times of the day. You don't want to be roasting in the afternoon and freezing at night.

I wouldn't worry about the privacy, but I would worry about the mosquitos. For that reason, I'd go with 4 walls.

After reading the description when we booked our room, it seems they have retractable glass doors so you'd still be able to close off the open area. I guess for photo purposes, they leave them open.

I've heard nothing but wonderful things from people who stay at the open air resorts like Ladera and Jade Mountain. Those are two of the nicest resorts on the island hands down!!

However - we knew that we just weren't up for 3 walls and decided to stay at Sugar Beach instead! My husband likes to crank the AC and keep things frosty, and I get eaten alive by mosquitos so it was a pretty easy decision for us. Smiley laugh

We stayed in a Luxury Villa at Sugar Beach with a plunge pool & hot tub - and it was the nicest place either of us had stayed in our lives! The accommodations were insanely nice, but the tradeoff was that our specific cottage didn't have a super clear view. That was fine by us, but we also drove past the Ladera Resort on our way to dinner one night and their views looked insane! They're all alone at the top of the mountain overlooking the pitons and look incredible. 🤩
